August 4, 2022

Children's Christian Formation starts this Sunday, August 7th at 9:15am! Get ready to join Kids Club 219, aka Holy Comforter's Children's Ministry. With Ephesians 2:19 being one of our scripture bases, we want children to get to know who they are and whose they are. We will follow along with the Episcopal liturgy using the Lesson Plans That Work curriculum available through the Episcopal Diocese website. Register below.

If you have baked altar bread for services in the past, may I say thank you. Although this is a simple task, it has great significance in our service. Your service is greatly appreciated.

If you haven't made bread before, perhaps you could do this in the future. The bread is easy to make. It only takes about 20 minutes, start to finish. I promise.

We are trying to fill the schedule for September - December. Please look at your calendar and prayerfully consider baking altar bread for one of the Sundays in those 4 months. If you would like to help with this, please email Linda Bargeron Once the schedule is final, it will be sent to those who are scheduled to make the bread.
Our next book is Wholehearted Faith by Rachel Held Evans. We meet Wednesday, August 10th at 10am. Rachel was working on this book when she died suddenly and tragically at 38 years of age. Her dear friend Jeff Chu and her husband, Dan, made sure that her words reached us.

“This book is for the doubter and the dreamer, the seeker and the sojourner, those who long for a sense of spiritual wholeness, as well as those who have been hurt by the church but can’t seem to let go of the story of Jesus.” Please join us.
If you are interested in serving on the Welcome Team please see Father Glenn. The Welcome Team servants take a decorative bag, including a Holy Comforter mug and information about the parish, to folks after worship on the day they visit for the first time and provide a personal "Welcome".
The Rector’s Forum returns Sunday, September 18 at 9:15am for a 6 session discussion and study of the Henri Nouwen book, “Following Jesus: Finding our Way Home in an Age of Anxiety”.
At one of the lowest points in Henri Nouwen’s life, he gave a series of lectures on the importance of following Jesus in an age of anxiety. And he explains why the greatest reward for those looking for spiritual direction is rediscovering Jesus’s teaching on love.
You may wish to purchase the book at Barnes and Noble or order on Amazon.
New to Holy Comforter? You are invited to a Newcomer’s Luncheon on Sunday, September 18 following the worship service. This is a chance to welcome all those who have started worshipping at Holy Comforter since the pandemic started, many of whom will be received into membership when the Bishop visits on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Let us know you are coming. RSVP in the foyer.
