CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER
April 8, 2021

WELCOME TO
THE REV. GLENN PALMER
We welcome The Rev. Glenn Palmer as our guest preacher and celebrant this Sunday. He recently retired from the Army as a Chaplain (Lt. Col). For the past 3 years Glenn was the Chief of the Training Development Division at the US Army Chaplain Center and School at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC. He and his wife Pamela moved to N. Augusta a few months ago and he is doing a Clinical Pastoral Residency at the VA Medical Center in Augusta. The pastor is on a spiritual retreat at Kanuga and returns this Sunday evening.
The service of Holy Eucharist will continue to be broadcast live on our Facebook page at 10:30am Sunday morning.

WELCOME TO CHRIS CONNOLLY
We are delighted to welcome Christ Connolly as our guest soloist this Sunday. Chris Connolly is a local cellist and teacher. He plays with the Augusta Symphony, teaches privately as well as in the Richmond County school system through the Richmond County Orchestra program. He also teaches through the Augusta University Conservatory Program, and performs throughout the CSRA and surrounding region. Chris received his Bachelor’s from Georgia Southern and Masters at Augusta University and enjoys spending time with his family.
THE BOOK OF JOY
A TWO PART STUDY
The Book of Joy is a poignant and heartwarming account of a week-long conversation between the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Two of the world's most influential spiritual leaders share their accumulated wisdom, and discuss one of life's most fundamental questions, 'How do we find joy and light, amidst so much darkness and suffering?'

This is a two part study on Wednesday April 21 and 28, led by the pastor, Cynthia Taylor. Contact Dr. Taylor for more information at pastor@holycomforterchurch.org. We will meet in person at 5:30 pm upstairs in the church following safety procedures.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM
We will offer the sacrament of Baptism on Pentecost, Sunday May 23. If you or your child wishes to be baptized then please contact the church office at 706-210-1133. What a glorious way to celebrate the birthday of the church!

SAFETY FIRST
We are still observing safety procedures as outlined by the CDC and the Diocese of Georgia. That means maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, no congregational singing or exchanging the peace.

KEEP THE FOOD COMING
So far this year we have collected 3600 pounds of food! Our next drive through food drive is Saturday May 1 from 10am—noon. Please bring non-perishable food or easily stored produce such as apples and potatoes. And thank you—you are making a difference in out area.

WANTED: A YOUTH MINISTER
We are looking for a person with a heart for God's young people to be our next youth minister. This is a part-time position. Previous experience in working with youth or in Christian Education a plus but we will train you. Send your resume to the rector, Cynthia Taylor, at pastor@holycomforterchurch.org.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEW BEGINNINGS EVENT ONLINE
April 26-27, 6-8 p.m. on Zoom

We are all looking forward to gathering together in person as soon as we can do so safely! In the meantime, some of our high school youth have come together to offer youth in grades 6-9 a small taste of one of our favorite middle school events! This event, led by high school youth for middle school youth, will take place on Monday and Tuesday evenings, April 26 and 27. Our high schoolers will offer some thoughts on Friends, Changes, the Church and Me, and Sharing our Gifts. As they prepare, they are thinking back to their own middle school years and what they wish someone had said to them.

During each night, we will also have music, small groups, games, and a chance to worship together. Questions? Please contact Canon Joshua Varner at jvarner@gaepiscopal.org.

HOW TO GIVE
If at all possible, please keep up with your financial gifts to the church. Money is always tight but never more than now. When this crisis has passed, I want us to pick up where we left off and continue to expand our mission and ministry of Jesus Christ.

There are several ways to give. You can press the "Donate Now" button below or go on-line to our website at www.holycomforterchurch.org and click on Giving at the top right hand. Finally, you can mail checks to: Church of the Holy Comforter, 473 Fury’s Ferry Road, Martinez, Georgia, 30809.

For those with an IRA account, due to COVID-19, RMDs in 2020 are not required but are still a tax saving for the donor and much needed and appreciated by Holy Comforter.
