CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER
October 7, 2021

THIS SUNDAY

STEWARDSHIP "KICK-OFF"
This Sunday is the "kick-off' of our stewardship campaign. Most of you have received a letter from Fred Hoogland about our stewardship focus, Every Perfect Gift. Enclosed was a pledge card and a chart to help you prayerfully consider regular giving to Holy Comforter in 2022. Also enclosed was a Time and Talent brochure with various opportunities to share your gifts with our church and our community.

Holy Comforter receives no outside financial aid. We are totally dependent on the gifts given to this church to be a continuing presence in our community and in your lives. Please give generously. Return your pledge card by Celebration Sunday, November 21. You can submit your pledge card through the mail or online by using the link below.

GUEST PREACHER
This Sunday we welcome back The Rev. Dr. Joe Bowden as our guest preacher. The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Taylor will be our celebrant.

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS
The Church office will be closed Monday, October 11 for Columbus Day.

MONDAY MEDITATIONS
AND PRAYERS
Holy Comforter is now open on Monday mornings from 9am -11am. This will be a time for parishioners to pray, meditate and have conversation with others. A peaceful and caring time for all. Hope you will stop by now and then. For more information contact Mary Kelly 206-859-8418.
The Prayer Shawl group is now meeting at the church! They meet in the downstairs classroom next to the office. Come knit with us on Tuesdays at 10:30am.

THE BOOK CLUB
The Book Club meets Wednesday, October 13 at 10:00am at the church. Our book for October is Living Faith by Jimmy Carter.

“For President Carter, faith finds its deepest expression in a life of compassion, reconciliation, and service to others. Living Faith is filled with stories of the people who have touched his life”.

For more information about The Book Club, contact Mary Kelly at marykelly919@comcast.net or 206-859-8418.

UPCOMING YOUTH EVENT
Let us know you're coming! Contact Tab Carter at tcarter@augusta.edu.

AN INSTRUCTED EUCHARIST
An Instructed Eucharist is a special service which is narrated in order to teach the meaning of the service of Holy Communion, why we do what we do, why we wear vestments, light candles, etc. This gives real-time worship teaching or commentary which sheds light on the various elements of the service in the Episcopal Church. Join us for our Instructed Eucharist Sunday, October 17 at our 10:30 am service.

FALL FESTIVAL
Fall is approaching! Holy Comforter will host a Fall Festival Saturday, October 23rd from 10am-1pm. We are looking for anyone interested in donating baked goods for a bake sale, tents, and other materials to be used in the Fall Festival!

If you are interested in volunteering or assisting contact Mallory Halterman at mallory.halterman@gmail.com.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism will be offered on November 7 during the bishop’s visitation. This is not just for infants and children who have not been baptized but for adults as well. If you would like to be baptized, please contact Church Administrator Vivian Vaiden at 706-210-1133.

COOPER'S CARDS
We are collecting Christmas cards for the women at Leath Correctional Facility. Bring donated cards with envelopes to church and place them in the container in the foyer.  Please note the cards cannot have any glitter or things glued to the cards either on the inside or outside. The inmates come from every faith so choose cards with a Happy Holidays message as well Merry Christmas. The deadline is October 31st. Afterwards, we will write a short message inside each card before they are delivered to the prison. To help with the signing of the cards, email Linda Bargeron at Lhbargeron@gmail.com.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE
Holy Comforter will offer its second pilgrimage to the Holy Land next year, led by the rector, Cynthia Taylor along with The Rev. Donald Fishburne. May 11-20, 2022. This pilgrimage is not just for our church but for anyone who wants to experience the spiritual trip of a lifetime. We will prayerfully visit The Galilee, including Magdala, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and more. If you wish, you can take an optional extension to Petra and other sites. Pick up a brochure in the foyer. Sign up now as space is limited.
Preparing for Sunday is a tool to help us prepare for Sunday worship by engaging in the assigned lessons from Scripture.

It includes an overview, a lesson introduction, a reflection, and a prayer starter. It is available on our website here.
