Engage and Learn
The first few weeks of class are crucial for engaging students and creating the optimal learning conditions for their success. Some ideas for engagement recently shared amongst faculty at CTE workshops include:

  • Arrive to synchronous Zoom classes a little early. It can be hard to get more casual conversation going so play some music, have an inspirational quote, meme, or funny question of the day. "What's the weirdest thing you've ever had on a pizza?"

  • Host "Coffee Chats" sessions outside regular class time. Get best times for everyone using a scheduling app.

  • Use virtual background pictures that relate to the class or topic of the day. Or reinforce important ideas by making a slide with the key points as your virtual background.
