I hope that you are enjoying the summer with your families. As you know, I am approaching the end of my term as FES President, and I have been reflecting on the successes and challenges we continue to face. I will share with you today our top five successes:
1) We completed the first year of Engineering Florida, our new statewide magazine, and published it digitally (for FES membership).
2) We completed the first year of Engineer Interns Recruitment (resulting in 15 new paid EI memberships).

Celebrate Engineer of the Year and Others at the FES Awards Lunch | |
While you are at the Annual Conference, make sure to attend the FES Annual Awards Lunch on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 11:30 am - 1:15 pm. Celebrate the recipients of the Engineer of the Year, the Young Engineer of the Year, Outstanding Technical Achievement, Outstanding Service to the Engineering Profession, and more.

FES Awards $36,000 to Florida Students Studying to Become Engineers | |
FES has awarded $36,000 in scholarships to recent Florida high school graduates and continuing university students who are pursuing engineering careers.
Twelve students from across Florida were selected to receive the scholarships administered through the FES and Florida Engineering Foundation. Among the recipients are six recent high school graduates and six continuing university students.

Mark your calendars: the inaugural FES Tampa Chapter & ASHE Tampa Golf Tournament will take place Friday, November 1, 2024, bringing both organizations together for sport and friendly competition.

FDOT Seeks Information from Florida PEs | |
For more than 40 years, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has proudly offered the PE Training Program to FDOT employees who are engineering graduates. This four-year program encompasses all aspects of the Department’s operations and prepares the trainee for a role in organizational leadership. This year, the Department wants to celebrate all of the program’s graduates who are still practicing engineering in Florida with a reunion.

FDOT Seeks Information from Florida PEs | |

During the 2024 legislative session, the Florida Legislature ratified strict new water quality rules. These rules were adopted in 2022, by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). These are the most significant rules pertaining to improvements in stormwater quality in DEP’s history and the most protective rules in the nation on stormwater quality.

Betsy Jeffers joins HNTB as a senior project manager in Florida
Betsey Jeffers, PE, has joined HNTB as vice president and senior project manager supporting the firm’s roadway department in its South Florida offices. Jeffers has been working in the transportation sector for more than 32 years with experience in project management, roadway design, complete streets, and bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
Most of her career has been with the Florida Department of Transportation District 4 Design Office, where she is an expert in FDOT design criteria and standards, specifications, typical section variance and exception reviews, quality control in the daily plans production environment and guidelines for the American Society of State Highway and Transportation Officials and National Society of City Transportation Officials.
