First off, I think it is important, as beneficiaries start using their insurance coverage in January and February, that they know there could still be an opportunity to change plans. It may take until February for some to recognize that their coverage is not adequately working for them.

Secondly, this Medicare/Covid information is relevant at this juncture for two reasons, the first being the latest HHS extension of the Public Health Emergency which is effective January 16, 2022 through April 16, 2022, and the other being the confusion with Medicare coverage of the at home COVID tests. Currently Medicare does not cover/reimburse the at home COVID tests.  We encourage Medicare beneficiaries to take advantage of the new website to order free kits to be sent directly to the residence. For those who don’t have access to a computer or an internet connection, the government has also set up a phone line. For now, that number is the same number that the government’s vaccine hotline: 1-800-232-0233.
