For over a year, the pandemic turned a bright light on the importance of cleaning and disinfecting surfaces for health. Facility managers answered with amped up cleaning schedules designed to help curb the spread of Covid-19. Enhanced cleaning goes a long way in easing anxious minds of building tenants.
Employees, occupants and guests remain cautious about their safety and the cleanliness of the enclosed spaces they visit. BusinessWire reports on a recent survey that found that 73 percent of all employees say their workplace should be cleaned daily. The survey also found a rising number of employees want to see daily cleaning and disinfecting. Pre-pandemic, only about half of commercial offices were cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces on a daily basis, according to the CleanLink “Cleaning Costs and Frequencies Report.”

Sabis school starts strong with ADA

Harris Associates, an architectural firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has designed several Sabis schools in the United States — including the Collegiate Charter School in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Starting with a green slate
The 66,000-square-foot Collegiate Charter School was constructed in two phases. It currently holds 754 students from kindergarten through 7th grade and now accommodates grades 9-12. Eventually, the school will have a total of 1,200 students across all grades. Hand dryers, and other green features including solar panels, were part of the plan from the beginning

Independent research firm Verdantix recently revealed eight “Leaders” in integrated workplace management system (IWMS) platforms for smart buildings, complementing the firm’s list of four Leaders in Internet of Things (IoT) platforms revealed earlier this year.

According to the IWMS report, eight firms — Accruent, FM:Systems, IBM (TRIRIGA), iOFFICE + SpaceIQ (Archibus), MRI (ManhattanONE), Planon, Spacewell and Tango — currently lead the rapidly changing IWMS marketplace. Using its proprietary Green Quadrant methodology, Verdantix assessed the capabilities of the 13 most prominent IWMS providers on their ability to centralize real estate and facilities data and drive operational improvements.

Crime and violence in the U.S. are increasing, according to recent statistics. It’s happening throughout the country and in all types of communities, large and small.
According to the Council of Criminal Justice, homicides jumped 15 percent during the first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. Aggravated assault rates were higher in the first half of 2021 than in 2020. And motor vehicle theft rates have gone up by a staggering 21 percent, according to a study published July 2021.
Because most cleaning work is done late at night in empty buildings and on deserted streets, cleaning workers can be particularly vulnerable to these types of crimes, points out AFFLINK, a sales and marketing organization for the jan/san industry.

Microsoft Corp. released its second annual Microsoft Work Trend Index report, “Great Expectations: Making Hybrid Work Work.” The company also announced new features across Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, Surface Hub and Microsoft Viva to empower hybrid work and address employees’ emerging expectations for the workplace.
Among the revelations, employees have a new “worth it” equation, and there’s no going back. After sitting on the cusp of hybrid work for more than a year, many companies are at a long-awaited inflection point: the lived experience of hybrid work.

Every year, the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association presents the Vista Awards to health facility teams who develop safe, quality healthcare environments, demonstrate effective and efficient communication, and rely on data-based decision-making processes.
