A PLACE OF EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

Raiders of the Month

Ladies and gentlemen, please help me congratulate Hedi Forrester. She is one of our Mild/Mod Special Education teachers and is the parent of one of our student/soccer players. Mrs. Forrester is a kind-hearted and calming voice in the classroom. Here are some words that our Raider Family members had to say about her:

  • "Mrs. Forrester is a great teacher!"
  • "She goes an extra mile to help everyone, students and staff."
  • "It is a pleasure to work with her."

Thank you, Mrs. Forrester, for all that you have done for our Raider family over the years. Your commitment to our family is commendable.

Ladies and gentlemen, please congratulate Remigio (Remi) Rodriguez. Mr. Rodriguez is one of our daytime custodians and is one of the hardest-working people you would ever meet. Here are some of the comments that his Raider Family members had to say about him:

  • "Consistent, friendly, hard-working, reliable. He is a tremendously hard worker who shows up every day and does a thankless job exceptionally well."
  • "There is not a harder worker that takes as much pride in their work as Remi. He is an amazing worker that gets things done to keep the campus clean!"
  • "Outstanding job day in and day out. Positive, friendly, and incredibly supportive with all staff and students."

Holiday Food Drive

We want to take this opportunity to provide thanks and gratitude to Amy Welch, Nazeeha Bawaney, and Bree Costello for organizing another successful SOHS Food Drive. Their weeks of planning and organizing were on full display, as everything ran smoothly and the event even ended ahead of schedule. The Food Drive is a time-consuming event, and these three ladies were simply exceptional.

We would also like to thank every teacher, staff member, administrator, parent, volunteer, and, most importantly, the hundreds of students who selflessly dedicated their time to this event. Whether you offered money, provided food, put boxes together, set up tables, shopped, packaged items, delivered, cleaned up, or offered your time in any other way, your efforts were truly appreciated and an integral component of the success of the Food Drive. No effort was too small, and it was wonderful to see so many working parts in sync to ensure our community's neediest families did not go without this holiday season.

Enjoy this recap video taken by Mr. Takkinen.

Parking Flow

In the interest of safety and efficiency, please adhere to the SOHS Drop-Off/Pick-Up Zone routes identified in the image below. The specified ingress and egress routes have been developed to ensure the safety of our students and all drivers during the busy morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times.

Please note that there is no stopping or parking on S. Palm Street, nor is there any drop-off or pick-up traffic permitted in the staff parking lot. Lastly, we want to be courteous and respectful to our neighbors, so we ask that you not use their facilities as a drop-off or pick-up locations.

Thank you in advance for your efforts in creating a safer experience for all of our Raiders.

Student Handbook

Any questions or concerns about our Student Handbook, please feel free to contact Mr. Lee at [email protected].

Thank you to everyone for reporting your attendance, especially this first week back. This is a reminder that prompt and daily school attendance has a direct bearing on academic success. Students are expected to be on time and attend all classes. Parents are expected to ensure that students attend school and are on time for school each day. If your child is going to be late, absent, or leaving early, let us know as soon as possible by phone, note, or in person. Absences must be cleared within 3 days or they become truancies and cannot be excused. Both parents and students need to check attendance on Aeries frequently. Contact the office if you need help accessing Aeries.

  • Absences that have not been cleared within three (3) days = Truancy.
  • Tardies beyond thirty (30) minutes = Absence.
  • Leaving campus without an Off-Campus Transfer Slip, including during break and passing periods = Truancy (Check-in and check-out with the Attendance Office. No exceptions.)
  • Once a student is excused for five days in a row due to illness, a doctor’s note must be obtained for excusal on the fifth day. Any absences of more than 5 days in a row require a doctor’s note for the absence to still be considered excused.
  • If your child will be absent more than 3 days in a row, contact the attendance office directly.
  • Excessive tardies and truancies will result in an intervention.
  • Students need a valid reason for being late to school or absent. Traffic, oversleeping, alarm malfunction, studying for exams, family vacations, and personal matters are not valid reasons. See the complete list of valid reasons for being late and absent on the Sonora High School Attendance Procedures page.
  • To report an absence, tardy or early release, a parent/guardian must provide the student’s full name, date of absence/tardy/leaving early, reason, and parent/guardian name and phone number.

The Assistant Principal of Student Services, Jina Jackson, is available for consultation regarding attendance concerns and issues.
