Moving Forward
Enjoy expanded holiday festivities this weekend
The City of Sierra Vista has partnered with the Sierra Vista Area Chamber of Commerce to enhance two favorite holiday events that will take place this weekend.
The City’s annual tree lighting ceremony has been expanded into a two-day festivity with a holiday market, a new community tree donated by the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Vista, and a wine and beer garden run by the Sierra Vista Rotary Club. The Tree Lighting and Holiday Market will take place in Veterans Memorial Park from 4 to 11 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Expanding this event has enabled the City to partner with the chamber on its Christmas Light Parade, which will take a new route encircling Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday evening. This change makes the most of both events, while also reducing costs, enhancing safety, and extending the route used for local parades.
Schedule of events
On Friday, visitors to Veterans Memorial Park can enjoy a performance by the Sierra Vista Community Band at 5 p.m. before watching the tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Santa will arrive after the ceremony to meet local children and take their letters, while the holiday market and wine/beer garden will remain open throughout the event on both days. Children's activities will run from about 4:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, the Desert Swing Band will perform a Christmas Concert from noon to 1:30 p.m. Then the chamber’s Christmas Light Parade will head around Veterans Memorial Park starting at 5:30 p.m. Entrances and exits to Veterans Memorial Park will be closed for the parade from 5 to 7:30 p.m., so be sure to get ready early! Santa will then return to the park after the parade as Children’s activities and shopping continue until 11 p.m.
