Seed Sowing Class a Great Success

The weather was bitter cold but participants enjoyed the warm fire in the 1710 farmhouse and sowed many native seeds for spring with our horticulturalist, Ellen Scheid. A separate class was conducted by Master Gardener, Nancy Kressin. The Master Gardeners sowed seeds for the arboretum that are now waiting for spring under the deep snow.

New Irrigation System under Construction

This month, Skillings Well Drilling was on site to drill a new well for our expanded irrigation system. Along with the deer fence, the new irrigation system will allow us to greatly expand our plant collection. Once the well is complete, our irrigation consultant will begin designing the new system, which will be installed in the spring. Stay tuned!

Staff Note

Snow is falling, coating the earth in a beautiful layer of white cotton. A thick snow cover protects the plants and animals living beneath its crust, especially during bitter cold. I love snow, and it has been several years since we’ve had this much at the arboretum. Bring your snowshoes or cross-country skis and enjoy the beauty and quiet of the garden.
