School Groups Have Arrived at the Arboretum!

School groups are coming to Wakefield for a day of environmental education. Visitors include students ranging in age from 5 to 14. So far we have had groups from Quincy, Mattapan, and Roxbury. Horticulturalist, Ellen Scheid demonstrates how paper wasps build their nest to students from Samual Mason Pilot School in Roxbury.

New Wakefield Chicks Delivered to Post Office

Post Master Melissa received the chicks and was so excited that she named them all. Chicks are thriving and they will be moved to the coop in two more weeks. When chicks hatch they can survive up to 72 hours without food or water due to the fact that they have stored energy from being in the egg. They are shipped overnight from the hatchery and arrived happy and healthy.

Staff Member's Sculpture on Display at Bridgewater State University

Staff member Matthew Noiseux designed and made this lovely metal sculpture titled "Life of a Flower" that is now on display and Bridgewater State University's Science Center. Congratulations Matthew!

Staff Note

June is here and the garden looks incredible. Many spring blooms were standouts including lilacs, azaleas and our native dogwood trees. Now the kousa dogwoods are in bloom, school groups are arriving to spend the day at the arboretum and Dogwood Days is in full swing. We hope you can come by for a visit at this very special time of year when we are in awe of Polly Wakefield's inspired vision of a garden.
