Staff Note

I am so grateful for the warm welcome I have received from my colleagues as well as the countless volunteers and visitors. As I experience my first transition from winter into spring at the Arboretum, I can’t help but think about the seasons ahead and the many firsts that are yet to come. I am lucky enough to spend many of my mornings strolling through the garden enjoying the azaleas blooming, the native ephemerals starting to pop and the little bees beginning to emerge from their winter slumber. My first two months here have been nothing short of a whirlwind, from installing hundreds of new plants, chipping endless amounts of brush, and perfecting my garden edging skills! I anticipate the coming months to be jam-packed with fun as dozens of children visit from surrounding schools for our educational programming in May and with Dogwood Days around the corner. I look forward to continuing to meet all who come to enjoy the grounds and hope to see you soon!

Warmly,

Ellen Scheid
