Remembering Eastvale Councilmember Ike Bootsma
|
|
It is with great sadness that the City of Eastvale announces the passing of Councilmember Ike Bootsma. The City was notified of his passing (May 14th, 2021) by his loving wife, Squeaker. “Our entire Eastvale community mourns the loss of Councilmember Ike Bootsma.”, said Mayor Jocelyn Yow. “Ike was a remarkable and dedicated public servant who will be greatly missed.”
Ike was elected to the Eastvale City Council in November of 2020. Prior to being elected in 2020, Ike served on the Eastvale City Council from 2010 through 2016, along with four terms as Mayor from 2013 to 2016. While on the City Council, Ike represented the City on several regional boards, including Western Riverside Council of Governments and the Riverside Transit Agency. Ike was also very active with the Eastvale Kiwanis Club, the Eastvale Chamber of Commerce, and was a regular participant in the Eastvale Roadway Adoption Program.
Ike was a resident of Eastvale for over forty-six years. He was born third from the youngest of nine children to Dutch immigrant parents, Trynje and Jim Bootsma. Ike’s family was one of the first to settle in Chino Valley in 1938, when they started their dairy. In 1975, Ike started a Calf Ranch in Eastvale that operated successfully until its closing in May of 2007. Ike was a proud father to Shaun Bootsma, Heidi Tillman, Mike Kirk, and Metchelle Bootsma.
Memorial service information is not yet available.

SCAG President Lorimore
Our very own Mayor Pro Tem Clint Lorimore was sworn in as President of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG)!
SCAG is the largest metropolitan planning organization in the country and represents 191 cities, six counties and nearly 19 million people in one of the most vital and robust economic centers in the United States. The swearing in took place during SCAG’s 2021 General Assembly, held virtually this year. Below is an excerpt from SCAG's press release about the meeting
"SCAG’s new president, Clint Lorimore, pledges broader collaboration as the region emerges from COVID-19, addresses ongoing challenges. Broadening collaboration on key issues like the region’s economic recovery and building greater regional connectivity top Clint Lorimore’s priorities as the newly installed president of the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).
“While the pandemic shut down our region, state and nation for over 12 months, we are now seeing signs that the worst of our situation might very well be behind us,” Lorimore said. “Even with the recovery, however, we know that people are hurting. We still have a housing crisis, we still have traffic problems and we still have high unemployment. As we emerge from this crisis, we have an opportunity to refocus, re-engage with our partners, and build and strengthen relationships to facilitate a recovery that brings us back even stronger.”
Congratulations, SCAG President Lorimore!
