Summer July 2023

FTN Summer Program

We don't usually get to see the joy on the kids faces when they get their yummy snacks, but we have some pictures of adorable faces shining bright from receiving their snack bags this summer! We do get to see the appreciation from the grownups that pick the snacks and drinks up and deliver them to their school! See pictures below.

The schools participating this summer are Ochwilla, Mellon, Middleton-Burney, STEM and CL Overturf District Center.

We are thankful that FTN and it's supporters can support these schools with snacks and drinks during the summer!

Check out a few pictures below of the grown-ups picking up the snacks and drinks for the kids from the FTN warehouse!

Volunteer Spotlight

Roger and Diana Jones

You rarely see one without the other, anyone who has the pleasure of meeting them would aspire to have a marriage like theirs. They are always generous with their time and talents. Both showing up and working hard whenever duty calls. Roger is an invaluable forklift driver and moves the pallets where they need to go and Diana is dynamic with packing, moving, and sorting so much food. Roger and Diane almost always have smiles on their faces and are such a joy to serve with! Thank you Diana and Roger!

July Drives

Thank you to the new churches collecting and to the churches that continually collect for Putnam County's food-insecure children. You are a huge part of feeding 800 kids each week of the school year, plus snacks during the summer months!

Hillcrest Baptist, Dunns Creek Community, Beulah Baptist, First Presbyterian Church of Palatka, Grace Fellowship, Trinity Baptist, and United Methodist.

VyStar Volunteers

VyStar Credit Union sent a group of volunteers to help FTN in the warehouse this summer, sorting and packing food into family bags so the will be ready to go when the new school year starts next month. Thank you so much VyStar for continued support!

Walmart Community Grant

Feed the Need of Putnam County is so grateful to the Walmart Community Grants Team and Facility # 551 for selecting FTN to receive a $2,000.00 grant! Walmart is supporting our work in the community and shares our desire to provide a local impact. Walmart says “By receiving this grant, you are part of a long history of Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the communities where we operate. In fact, Mrs. Helen Walton used to say, "It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived."”

Thank you to Walmart and Palatka store manager John Wallace for choosing Feed the Need of Putnam County for this grant!

We had a group of FTN volunteers, Jennie Farnham, Mary Lawnicki, and Ruth Valkenaar and PHS Volunteer Jennae present to accept the check from Walmart. Thank you to all!

Summer is the hungriest time of the year for millions of kids.

“In summer, when kids either have one meal or no meals on a lot of days, it really sets them back on a lot of levels. They're more likely to get sick.
