BEE WILD FARM - GUEST APPEARANCE!
Our chrysanthemums come in many colors and varieties, each blooming at a different time in September and October.  Our mums will brighten up your porch or your garden, and they make great arrangements for fall weddings, family reunions, and other events.
BOTANIST & BARREL
Botanist and Barrel Blueberry wine is back! Think Beaujolais. It is the best yet with over half a pound of organic Cedar Grove blueberry farm blueberries in each bottle. And we'll also be bringing our barrel aged ciders and our latest peach wine release.
CEDAR GROVE WINDY HILL FARM
Cedar Grove Windy Hill Farm will be at Market this week with delicious chicken and duck eggs from Chiara and Russell's pasture raised chickens and ducks, garlic, goat milk soap and a couple of Brown Turkey Fig trees.  The weather looks good for the first weekend of Fall, perfect for a walk to and through the Eno River Farmers market Saturday morning.  Take in the beauty of the Market Pavilion, the good feeling you get from your fellow marketers and vendors. The Master Gardeners will be at the Market this week to help you select plants and provide you with plant growing tips. Fall is a wonderful time of the year to plant flowers and many other things in Piedmont, North Carolina. Come early, stay late and enjoy the fun.

We will have Jane's wonderful hand-crafted goat milk soap in lavendar, Clary sage, rose geranium, orange clove, Bay rum and peppermint bars. We are excited to be able to have Jane's goat milk soap on our Market table.

Our delicious chicken eggs are ungraded, but we typically bring large eggs to  Market.  They will be their usual assortment of colors, making their display while they wait for you to eat them a fun experience. The duck eggs do not not come in varying colors but they are still tasty.

Chiara will be cleaning garlic cloves to ready them for Market again this week.   Chiara and/or Russell will be at the table and can tell you all about the variety/varieties we will have and information about them that will help you   All of the garlic varieties Chiara and Russell grow are yummy and will be fresh, fresh, fresh.

Every year, Geof roots and pots up a few new Brown Turkey Fig trees.  The "root stock" comes from what we call our "Mother Tree," a Brown Turkey Fig tree that was growing on the farm in 1977 when Geof moved to the farm.  We bring the new trees to the Market in the Fall ready for you to plant.  This week, we will have those fig trees but there are only two of them left (several were sold earlier off the farm).  Now is a good time to plant them and we can walk you through the way we do it at this week's Market.  Usually we have figs available for sale this time of year.  Unfortunately last Winter's intense cold spell killed all the fig tree branches back to the ground.  The trees survived, including a new one planted last Fall, but they had to send up branches from the tree roots.  As a result we have had very few figs on the trees this year.  Stay tuned, we may be able to bring a few figs to Market in October.  We will let you know about that in upcoming Newsletter posts.

Ecology and sustainability direct our agricultural practices.  Our fruit and vegetables are grown without chemical pesticides or herbicides.  We use only organic fertilizer.  Our animals are pasture raised without the use of growth enhancements-antibiotic or hormone. The feed we feed to our chickens and ducks is Non-GMO.  Our goat milk soap is thoughtfully crafted using the milk from our goats.

Chiara and Russell will be sharing Market time this week and Geof may join them for some part of the morning. We look forward to seeing you at the Farmers  Market Pavilion in beautiful downtown Hillsborough where we will be celebrating the start of Autumn and everything available at the best l'l Farmers Market in North Carolina.

CHAPEL HILL CREAMERY
Our Calvander cheese which is inspired by Asiago will be ready to sell Oct. 4 one and a half weeks from now. We're excited to have it available at the markets, stores, and in featured restaurants. We love seeing and tasting the dishes created by the creative chefs in North Carolina. Keep an eye out for our posters and buttons with our celebratory cows. More info at http://chapelhillcreamery.com/calvander-2017-release/
We have paneer this Saturday. For inspiration see what Lantern is doing with it on our Facebook or Instagram, or gently fry this Indian cheese yourself and add to a mixed vegetable curry or sautéed greens. We only make this when the restaurant serves it, so get some this Saturday
Our Dairyland Farmers cheese is fresh and moist and unlike the Paneer, it does melt when heated. Use it in tacos, our market salad recipe, in scrambled eggs.  Serve our Carolina Moon which is similar to a Camembert or Brie with hot pepper jelly or melt on a grilled cheese with roasted red pepper or mushrooms. To melt the Carolina Moon, trim some of the rind while it is cold, otherwise let the cheese warm to room temperature before serving. The rind is edible and traditionally it is eaten with each bite. Our Pheta is aged in a salt brine, which is a traditional method. Add to salads or greens, or marinate it with herbs and serve on a crusty bread.
Hickory Grove is a great cheese for the fall. Good with apples, for frittatas, or cheeseburgers. It is a monastery style cheese named for the Hickory Grove Baptist church near our farm. It has a smooth texture and a savory flavor.                           Lots of sausage in stock for the weekend including Bratwurst, Mild and Hot Italian, Polish, Smoked Andouille, Mild Country Breakfast, Sage and Maple Breakfast, and Chorizo. Sausage is made  with the hams for a meaty taste and the pigs are fed the whey from cheese making which is nutritious for them and makes the meat tender. We also have bacon, Spare ribs, smoked ham hocks, and our flavorful ground beef which is a customer favorite. Bring a cooler and come see us on Saturday.

COOKIE GURLIE
Cool mornings and warm days are a sure sign that fall is upon us. Taste the flavors of fall in Cookie Gurlie's

CUT AND CARRY BOUQUETS
Dahlia Days
The dahlias have had a tough summer with all the heat and humidity, but they're beginning to revive. Here in NC, the most spectacular display of dahlias occurs in late September and October.  The shorter days and cooler nights stimulate the development of vibrant petal colors and larger flowers.

Flowers by the Bucketful!!
We're bringing large color-coordinated wild flower and formal style bunches that can be used as is or made into several smaller arrangements to share with friends and family.

Arrangements
We're bringing lots of colorful "Grab & Go" small bouquets as well as our larger arrangements.    Select from bright or pastel arrangements both in the "wildflower" and formal styles.

We grow all of our flowers in an environmentally friendly manner in our raised beds and field.

A delicious almond-based alternative to dairy cheese, using whole-food ingredients - almonds, nutritional yeast, organic chickpea miso, extra virgin olive oil, and more. Sama SPREAD provides ample protein, B vitamins, minerals, live cultures that help with digestion, and other essential nutrients and is great as a dip, a spread on sandwiches or wraps, - UNLEASH YOUR CULINARY IMAGINATION!
SCREECH OWL GREENHOUSES

As for the haps at the farm, we're happy to announce that our latest batch of abandoned kittens have all found a home! Frankie, our tux boy cat, seems rather pleased that there are no longer little furry mini-mes (that's the plural of me, right?) hanging about; he was quite confused about them, especially since he's been fixed for about two years!

We'll see you  Saturday... oh, and if y'all could please put in some appeals to the rain gods on our behalf... our water tanks are running low, and although he may claim otherwise, Screech is not all-powerful enough to make it rain on his own!
