Chess

The Berkeley Chess School’s chess programs are designed for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of all ages. They provide rigorous training in chess while making the process fun, with skilled and engaging instructors and an eye toward personal growth.

Cooking With Chef Pooja

Do your kids love food? Do you want them to taste more cuisines? Teach them how to make their favorite foods with Chef Pooja. Help budding palates and small hands get comfortable in the kitchen with basic skills and recipes taught by a well trained chef. Cuisines include: Italian, Asian, French, Chinese. Sample recipe: three cheese Mac and Cheese one day with buttered dill pease on the side. Another class: Miso noodle soup with fresh organic vegetables. Everything will be seasonal and organic.

*Please note: There are no peanuts or tree nuts used in recipes. With previous notice other allergies will also be taken into consideration in design of class recipes.

Piano K-8

Students will learn to read musical notes while practicing methods, and different rhythms. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of posture, proper hand positions and the history of the piano. This is a skill that students will continue to develop and share with everyone to enjoy! *This is a 30 minute private lesson.

Soccer Shots

Soccer Shots sessions are age appropriate and led by trained Soccer Shots instructors. Soccer Shots utilizes creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, teamwork, and appreciation

Coding

Using iPad/Asus Tablet applications like Scratch Jr, Kodable, Light bot, and Bloxels coupled with hands on board games that promote social problem-solving, Code Fu's K-2 Dojo teaches students the computational logic of Computer Science/coding as well as provides them with an introduction into a number of block based coding languages. The second session will focus on tangible coding and will introduce robotic coding using a number of Coding Robots such as Cubetto!

Hanabi Judo

Hanabi Judo helps establish a strong base of judo technique, culture, and character. As students jump, run, and roll they develop balance, coordination, and confidence! Judo allows a smaller person to control an opponent bigger and stronger than themselves. Students will learn to hold a person down with “kesa-gatame” (scarf hold) and practice throws where their opponent can be flipped upside-down – on Sensei. Every class will finish with games that develop physical coordination, balance, and laughter. Students will sing in Japanese about inspiration and bow to each other respectfully. Then we say ""arigotoh,"" thank you. Respect and discipline"

Projects are rotated seasonally to ensure that even returning students get a new experience, so join us to design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas.

Young STEAMers (Biology)

Our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Program is designed to inspire and engage students in a holistic approach to learning while integrating the arts into the traditional STEM fields. We offer a range of hands-on activities that foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration and instill a love of science.

High Energy Latin Dance

This residency fosters a sense of community, encouraging students to deepen their relationship with one another through a positive shared experience of Latin social dance and music. High Energy Latin Dance awakens the joy of partner dance, live percussion instruments, and group singing activities. Students explore exciting Latin dance genres such as Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Rock en Español, folklorico beats, from the Americas, and more. Students learn basic group and partner choreography and introduction to Spanish terms and vocabulary through song, dance, and direction from the instructor.

Basketball

Basketball by HOKALI is more than just a game—it’s a dynamic way for students to build coordination, strategy, and teamwork while having fun. In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense through age-appropriate instruction that steadily develops their skills. Rooted in the principles of Social Emotional Learning (SEL), our program also fosters confidence, resilience, and strong communication, helping players thrive both on and off the court. From promoting sportsmanship and respect for rules to cultivating a sense of belonging through shared goals, this class equips students with the tools to succeed in basketball—and in life.

Theatre and Acting

Our Theatre & Acting program by HOKALI introduces students to the world of stage performance, helping them build confidence, creativity, and communication skills through drama. Students learn acting fundamentals such as voice projection, body movement, character development, and storytelling while collaborating in ensemble work. Theatre activities emphasize empathy, imagination, and resilience, creating opportunities for students to express themselves and connect with others. The program naturally supports Social Emotional Learning (SEL) by fostering confidence, leadership, and teamwork. Students conclude the program with a short play or scene showcase that highlights their skills and creativity.

Pequeños Cientificos

Get ready for hands-on fun and learning in Pequeños Científicos, with EBI science teacher Cecilia Cantor, a Spanish-language science enrichment class designed for curious minds in grades 2 to 4. In each session, students will engage in eight exciting experiments while practicing Spanish in an immersive and playful environment. From classic volcanoes with a twist to magnetic slime and elephant toothpaste, every activity presents an opportunity to explore the fascinating chemistry behind the fun. Students will wear lab coats and safety goggles as they explore the world of science through creativity, teamwork, and guided discovery. This class offers the perfect mix of language learning and scientific exploration, making it a unique experience that sparks both curiosity and confidence. ¡Nos vemos en el laboratorio!

Hablemos de Ciencias

Hablemos de Ciencia, with EBI science teacher Cecilia Cantor, is the perfect space for upper elementary and middle school students to take their Spanish to the next level, through science! In this 8-session class, students will explore fascinating scientific topics while building academic vocabulary and communication skills in Spanish. We’ll read engaging science articles on topics like chemical reactions, the nervous system of octopuses, electricity, and energy sources. Students will also participate in four hands-on mini-experiments to bring these concepts to life.


Each session ends with a short written reflection using the vocabulary learned that day, setting the stage for rich discussions and deeper understanding in the next class. This is a dynamic and interactive way to strengthen Spanish fluency through critical thinking and scientific inquiry ¡Vamos a hablar de ciencia!

Digital Arts & Design

Our Digital Arts & Design program by HOKALI combines technology and creativity, allowing students to bring their ideas to life using digital tools. Students explore graphic design, digital drawing, and visual storytelling while learning the basics of composition, color, and layout. The program promotes Social Emotional Learning (SEL) by encouraging creativity, confidence, perseverance, and collaboration. Students gain valuable skills in self-expression and problem-solving as they create digital artworks. The program concludes with a digital gallery showcasing student designs.
