Jesus Calling: July 24th, 2020

Thankfulness opens the door to My Presence. Though I am always with you, I have gone to great measures to preserve your freedom of choice. I have placed a door between you and Me, and I have empowered you to open or close the door. There are many ways to open it, but a grateful attitude is one of the most effective.
Thankfulness is built on a substructure of trust. When thankful words stick in your throat, you need to check up on your foundation of trust. When thankfulness flows freely from your heart and lips, let your gratitude draw you closer to Me. I want you to learn the art of giving thanks in all circumstances. See how many times you can thank Me daily; this will awaken your awareness to a multitude of blessings. It will also cushion the impact of trials when they come against you. Practice My Presence by practicing the discipline of thankfulness.

Psalm 100:4 (NLT)
4  Enter His gates with thanksgiving;  go into His courts with praise.  Give thanks to Him and praise His name.
Additional insight regarding Psalm 100:4: God alone is worthy of being worshiped. What is your attitude toward worship? Do you willingly and joyfully come into God's presence, or are you just going through the motions, reluctantly going to church? This Psalm tells us to remember God's goodness and dependability, and then to worship with thanksgiving and praise.

1st Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)
18  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Additional insight regarding 1st Thessalonians 5:18: Paul was not teaching that we should thank God for everything that happens to us, but in everything. Evil does not come from God, so we should not thank him for it. But when evil strikes, we can still be thankful for God's presence and for the good that he will accomplish through the distress.
This blog contains post from Sarah Young's daily devotional book, "Jesus Calling". The posts also contain the recommended Bible verses that are a part of each day's post as well as some other related scriptures. These verses are from the New Living Translation (NLT) of the Bible.
