DEAR CAREER COACH
Do hiring managers really look at cover letters anymore?

In short, YES. A cover letter can make you stand out from thousands of applicants. A well-written cover letter can help tip you over into getting an interview if HR or the hiring manager is unsure about your resume. Make sure to highlight why you’re right for the role by matching the language in your cover letter to some of the language in the job description that you couldn’t touch on in your resume.

Have a question for a Career Coach? Submit it here and look out for the answer in next month’s newsletter.

CAREER TIP OF THE MONTH
Conduct your entire job search process from the point of view of the employer.
Imagine a hiring manager standing in front of you with “What’s in it for me?” imprinted across their forehead as you prepare each piece of your collateral: your resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and interview answers.
GOING REMOTE
Remote work has become the new norm as many employers are embracing the idea of a virtual workforce.
young_businesswoman.jpg
According to Upwork’s Future of Workforce Pulse Report, which surveyed 1,000 business owners, human resource managers, and leaders nationwide, 1 in 4 Americans will be working remotely in 2021 and 36.2 million Americans will be remote by 2025, an 87% increase since COVID hit. While not every company is going fully remote, many companies that were not remote before the pandemic are considering transitioning to a remote or hybrid model.
