OCTOBER 2022 EDITION
Accelerate South Jersey: Focus Camden graduates inaugural cohort
The School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SIE) wrapped the first phase of its newly integrated entrepreneurship program approach to community empowerment. Billed as the Accelerate South Jersey: Focus Camden "bootcamp", twelve budding community and female entrepreneurs completed 30 hours of instruction. Led by Dr. Michael Dominik, the program helped prepare them to launch and grow new businesses in the Camden region.

The sessions were conducted on Saturday mornings and afternoons in Camden at the Joint Health Science Center, and was supported locally in Camden by the Latin American Economic Development Association, the Kroc Center (Salvation Army), the Rowan/Rutgers Board of Governors, and the New Jersey Economic Development Agency. The program covered topics such as legal business formation, customer identification, accounting and bookkeeping, strategic planning, startup/operations costs, marketing and sales, and business operations.

The next phases for enabling this group of community entrepreneurs includes assigning them experienced entrepreneurs who can serve as mentors, leveraging technical, business, and artistic talents of Rowan students who can contribute to these business startups, and assisting the entrepreneurs to identify the financial resources and partners they will need to become established members of the regional business ecosystem.

The SIE intends to continue the Accelerate South Jersey program into the next academic year, and will begin recruiting another cohort in spring and summer 2023. Inquiries for cohort applications can be directed to Dr. Michael Dominik.
