ORGANIZATION HIGHLIGHT:

BIKE REGINA

Bike Regina is a small advocacy group with big ideas about supporting and increasing the cycling culture in Regina. Our mission is “to make cycling to work and school safe, convenient, and fun for people of all ages and abilities in Regina. Through partnerships, outreach, and events we will advocate for a better cycling environment that promotes safety, physical activity, health, equity, and environmental sustainability. “We view commuter cycling as a part of a larger toolkit to address climate change. Our work in the community is targeted at reducing barriers to cycling for all peoples, including:

Park your bike at free, secure, and centralized options with our bike valet at local events (Cathedral Village Arts Festival, Regina Folk Fest, Bazaart, and more).

·    Learn how to tune up your bike at the pop-up bike co-ops throughout the summer.

·    Join us and the Regina Open Door Society on guided bike tours of the extensive multi-use trail system and recently constructed bike lanes.

·    Volunteer with us to advocate for equitable bylaws, policies, and infrastructure funding for all cyclists.

If any of that sounds interesting to you, we’re always looking to expand our volunteer list. We promise we won’t flood your inbox.

LOCAL BUSINESS HIGHLIGHT: REAPPLIABLE PARTS REGINA

With over 50 years of experience, REAppliable Parts specialize in fixing, repairing, and rebuilding appliances. Additionally, a key part of their business is being a drop off depot for broken and used appliances. This allows them to reclaim valuable parts that are no longer available to repair your current appliance. Instead of throwing away perfectly good parts, ReAppliable believes in recycling them to give older, well-built appliances a new life. This not only reduces the need for new appliances to be manufactured, but also saves energy and resources. Plus, it provides affordable options for those who may not be able to afford brand new appliances. By reusing parts, ReAppliable is practicing a form of "upcycling," which means turning something old into something new and useful. Recycling appliances also helps the environment and the economy by conserving resources, valuable materials such as metals and plastics can be reused, reducing the need for mining and extraction of new raw materials. This conserves natural resources and saves energy, as recycling metal uses less energy than producing new metals. Additionally, recycling appliances creates jobs in the recycling industry, which helps to support the green economy.
