HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE LAST MONTH

EnviroCollective was able to partner with SK Council for International Cooperation (SCIC) for the documentary screening and panel discussion of "The Great Green Wall". All panelists contributions were greatly appreciated. You can catch the documentary through Regina Public Library's digital service, Kanopy. EnviroCollective was also able to participate in the Sustainable Development Goals Expo hosted by Luther College's Non-Profit and Voluntary Sectors Studies Network. The Expo was an opportunity to network and work towards building community momentum! You can learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals by clicking the link below.

RESOURCE FEATURE: PATAGONIA FILMS "THE MONSTER IN OUR CLOSET"

"The Monster in our Closet" is a short documentary film created by Patagonia. The film critically examines the connections between the oil and gas industry, fast fashion and the clothing we might purchase and wear. Patagonia provides clear, concise information on the issue as well as actionable items we can take on both individual and collective levels.

LOCAL BUSINESS HIGHLIGHT:

THE PENNY UNIVERSITY

The Penny University Bookstore in Cathedral aims to be a literary hub. The store is crammed full of new releases, bestsellers and of course lots of books by local authors. There is usually an event happening with local writers every weekend too! If you can't make it to the store, The Penny University will come to you: citywide delivery is done by cargo bicycle, (or sometimes tricycle!) all year round. Store owner Annabel racked up over 600km in pedal-powered deliveries in 2022 and the trike is getting refitted as the official, zero-emission 'Penny Pedaller' mobile book store in 2023.

UPCOMING ENVIROCOLLECTIVE EVENTS

March 8 is International Women's Day, and this year, EnviroCollective wanted to highlight some of the ways that climate hazards and climate change disproportionately impact women, girls, and non-binary persons. We are hosting a 2 part lecture feating Dr. Amber Fletcher, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology and Social Studies and PhD student Abraham Bugre, who will speak to their research in the Global South and Global North. This event will take place on Sunday, March 12 at 1:30 PM at Campion College (U of R) in Room 104. Free parking is available in Lot 13 and there will be colouring sheets for children.
