Welcome to the bi-monthly environment e-news. Churches across the diocese are finding creative ways to celebrate Creationtide during September and after the extremes of the long, hot summer, we see how churches  are taking action on climate change.

Season of Creation Launches in Diocese of Leeds

Creative Creationtide Celebrations

Churches around the Diocese have been finding new ways to engage their congregations in celebrating and caring for God's creation. St John's, Wakefield are doing "Creation in a Bag" and Churches Together Harrogate held an ecumenical service. Read more
  Powering God's Northern Powerhouse
Booking is now open for the regional sustainable church heating and lighting conference on Saturday 1st December at Wakefield Cathedral. The day, which will be opened by Bishop Nick, is designed to inform Churchwardens and others seeking low energy solutions for warm and well lit churches. Flyer. Booking
St Barnabas' Speak Up Exhibition 
St Barnabas, Alwoodley opened its grounds and Church Centre to the community as part of the Speak Up Climate Coalition campaign this summer and spoke with their MP Fabian Hamilton about their concerns about climate change. Read more

Plastic in the church flowers?
Did you know that floral foam (oasis) is made of plastic and other toxic chemicals? Sadly, a lot of this finds its way down drains and into watercourses and the oceans. Read more. Find out about alternatives to oasis here.

Call to Cut Pollution as Electric Bus Fleet Launched
Diocesan Environment Officer, Jemima Parker, has taken part in the launch of a new all-electric bus service for Harrogate. Writing in the local paper, she praised the initiative but calls on North Yorkshire County Council to do more to ease congestion and pollution in the town. More

Thousands of UK Churches Switch to Renewable Energy
The results of the Big Switch campaign hit the headlines. Over 5,000 churches nationally are now on a renewable electricity tariff, helping to drive investment fossil free energy. Over 100 churches in the diocese are with our diocesan Green Journey scheme. Read more

 Climate Change "the Defining Issue of our Time"
The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has said that if the world doesn't change course by 2020, we run the risk of runaway climate change and urged world leaders to come to New York for a special climate conference next September. More

 Is our Planet Really Warming?
