August Greetings from the ELC
Happy August everyone!

I hope that you are enjoying your summer and carving out some nature immersion time each day to restore your general wellbeing.

Welcome to all of our new members. Your support means the world! On that note, we ask anyone reading this to please consider contributing to our roof replacement campaign. We have $48k left to raise in our $50k match campaign and we hope to replace these three badly deteriorated essential building elements in August/September (between our busy summer camps and school year field trips). We appreciate anything that you can do and you will receive a special invite to a “Raise the Roof” Party upon completion!

Here at the ELC we have had such a busy fun summer with (Read More)

HELP US RAISE (FUNDS FOR) THE ROOF
ELC is turning 33 years old this month!
Help us celebrate our birthday by gifting toward our roof campaign!

After years of wear, it's essential that we replace some of our roofing. William Barrows - a long time ELC supporter, has stepped up in a big way by pledging a $50k match to help make our $100k roof replacement project a reality. Now he's asking if you will do the same.

Everyone who contributes will get a special invitation to our
"Raise the Roof" party upon completion!

JULY RECAP
Our campus has been buzzing with activity all summer long!
Our interns are amazing and we so enjoy having them with us through the summer. Check out all the hands-on experiences they had during their time at the Environmental Learning Center!
Hello, my name is... ARGYLE!

My name means diamond pattern - which is super fitting because of the pattern on my shell.
Thank you to all who casted votes on naming our terrapin!

Be sure to visit Argyle the next time you come to the ELC!
ENVIRONMENTAL INSIGHTS
Bigmouth Sleeper Goby
The Environmental Learning Center is now home to a very special fish - the Bigmouth Sleeper (Gobiomorus dormitor). These fish get the name “sleeper” due to their tendency to spend most of the day resting. But do not let that fool you- at night, these fish are voracious predators consuming shrimp, smaller fish, insects, and frogs. Bigmouth sleepers usually hunt below spillways, flood control structures, and other areas where their prey congregate, but they have even been known to crawl out of the water to feed along riverbanks!

Let's welcome our new member of the ELC aquarium--a Striped Burrfish. On week 2 of summer camp, the campers caught it while seining with others!

A fun fact about the Striped Burrfish is that they squirt water out of their gills to push themselves forward because they aren't very good swimmers.
Our mission is to educate, inspire and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being.

Thank you for the many ways you support our critical mission.
We simply couldn’t do it without you!
