Epic provider news

 October 2022

Construction cranes teem.

Epic changes too; there's more

Than one way to grow.

Update from our CMIO

As we move into the fall, more changes are coming with Epic. Secure chat continues to evolve and mature. By June of 2023, with support of the residency programs, we will join our Children's Hospital of Colorado colleagues in eliminating pagers and alternate messaging tools in favor of Epic Secure Chat. Also coming this year: Electronic Case Requests for Surgery, eConsents and more. Our governance and design teams are spinning up for these projects.

Enjoy the cooler weather!

Secure chat availability statuses

To manage alarm fatigue and minimize cognitive load, we are changing Epic Secure chat availability statuses in October. This has some important implications, so review the SBAR for more information and our recommendations of what to do.

Upcoming deletion of imaging orders from preference lists

As they are out of date, all MR orders on User Preference Lists will be deleted on December 6, 2022. After deletion, you will need to replace by adding the new modernized orders to your Preference List.

PDMP report update

The Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) report in Epic has a new look. You will notice an improved user interface with a reorganization of content, specifically prescriber and fill data is now located at the top.

Insulin package order validation

In order to prevent delays in patient care and medication dispensing by the pharmacy, a new order validation will display when you write an order for a quantity of insulin outside of prescribing parameters. Acknowledge the order validation and return to the order to adjust it.

Update to Screening Navigator – addition of Patient Reported Data from My Health Connection

There is a new tab called File PT Data within the Screening Navigator that will display data from My Health Connection that was addressed by the patient prior to their visit.

Update to automatic learner attestation

If a learner opens an AMB (Preferred) APSO Note, there is an automatic attestation for the attending provider embedded in the notes by default. Unfortunately, some learners have been completing the attestation which is meant for the teaching provider. To assist with in-line education, we are changing the display on the attestation.

Note: if you are not using the standard APSO note, or it the note is not started by the student, you can pull the attestation into your note with the SmartPhrase uchtpmedstudatt

The location in the notes and the verbiage within the attestation itself have not changed.
