Walk In Love Update
by Leona Wierwille, Youth Shoe Drive Coordinator
| | |
The Church of the Common Ground is an Episcopal community run for unhoused people in Atlanta. My experience serving with the Church of the Common Ground has inspired me to do more for people in need.
The Walk In Love shoe drive supports the Church of the Common Group by providing needed materials. But these donations do more than meet a need. They also send a message of compassion and encouragement by demonstrating to worshippers at Church of the Common Ground that other people are thinking of them and willing to help them. This drive delivers a clear representation of our commitment to Jesus' teachings by showing compassion and empathy for others.
The name, “Walk in Love,” comes from Ephesians 5. “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” This phrase reminds me that being a Christian is not just about going to church. To be a Christian also means to "Walk in Love," to actively live and participate in what Jesus taught and what Scripture directs us to do, to give aid and spread love to the less fortunate.
In previous years, we’ve collected over 120 pairs of shoes. As of last Sunday, we have collected 20. My hope is not only to reach last year’s total but to pass it and hit 175 pairs for our siblings at Common Ground.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, and if you have not had a chance to bring shoes, you have two more weeks until we wrap up the drive on December 7.

Contemplative Book Group
Next five-week study starts Thursday, December 4 • Room 201
| | | | |
12/4—Join us for discussion of Richard Rohr’s book, The Tears of Things: Prophetic Wisdom for an Age of Outrage as we learn to live compassionately in a time of violence and despair. Using the Hebrew prophets as models, Rohr sets out a wholehearted model of movement from rage to pathos and lamentation, and then to compassion for the world’s suffering. Using what he calls “sacred criticism,” Rohr shares a distinct approach to confronting evil and injustice that acknowledges the wholeness of history, our interconnectedness, and the reality of a divine and universal love.
