A Reflection from Fr. Perry | |
Welcome to the Season of Light . . . and Save the Date!
Epiphanytide has long been known as “The Season of Light” within the church calendar because it begins with an event that is all about light: Remembering the star that beckoned three wise men from a distant country to come to Bethlehem and find a tiny newborn. During the season after Epiphany (this year, January 7 – March 4), we pray that the light of Christ will shine in us and through us each time we gather for worship.
At All Saints’ we’re adding a couple special events to the calendar this Epiphanytide to celebrate the Light:
· On Saturday, February 1, we will have a special evening reception to showcase the world-class art of the St. John’s Bible. The evening will begin with a reception in the Memorial Garden with hors d’ oeuvres and live chamber music. We will begin the program with music from our All Saints’ Choristers and members of our Chamber Choir. Brad Neary, Director of the St. John’s Bible Heritage Program, will be our keynote speaker for the evening and will explain the art and history of the St. John’s Bible. Afterward, all seven volumes of the Bible will be on display for a public viewing. The event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $25 per ticket to support our Children, Youth, and Family Ministries.
· On Sunday, February 2, we will celebrate a high choral mass at the 10AM service to commemorate the Feast of the Presentation. In Anglican churches across the globe this feast is known as Candlemas, and traditionally parishioners would bring all the candles they would use to light their home in the upcoming year to church to be blessed. So bring a candle and bring a friend to this celebration of the Presentation of our Lord and Anglican music and liturgy!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS COMMITTED TO SUPPORT OUR
MISSION & MINISTRY.
You are one of the MILLION
REASONS why All Saints'
is so blessed!
$775, 922
from 191 pledges
Our goal:
$1,000,000
$224,078 to go.
In 2025, our focus is community and the reasons we all give so generously of ourselves to make All Saints' great. In the upcoming year, we have plans to expand our programs for children and youth, continue to grow our choir, and build on the strength of our outreach ministries that bring hope and peace to those who need it most. Our goal is to raise one million dollars to make this growth possible, and with God's help and your faithfulness, we will get there.

SACRED POETRY with Chesirae Valentine
Song of Songs and Taylor Swift
The Episcopal Church has a rich history of honoring both poetry and poets as sacred and saints. Whether it dwells on the sanctity of Love, the glory of God's creation, or the burden and blessing of human experience, sacred poetry captures the numinous in meter and metaphor. Come learn and explore this discipline, while also hearing from more modern poets (Taylor Swift, Mary Oliver, Christian Wiman, David Whyte, Kendrick Lamar, Sarah Kay), and learning to craft your own poetry. This class is appropriate for most ages and all experience levels.

This semester we will be diving into the "texts of terror" found in the Bible: the stories of hardship, pain, and sorrow, which can teach readers how to cultivate practical compassion. In the words of theologian Phyllis Trible, "Sad stories do not have happy endings...but they may yield new beginnings." Within this Bible study, students will confront hard topics, wrestle with what to do, and serve with organizations that will directly alleviate the modern day terrors faced by our community (NourishPHX, A New Leaf, St. Vincent de Paul).
