Trunk or Treat Hosted at St. James Episcopal
Midvale, Utah
For nearly 30 years, St. James Episcopal Church in Midvale has enjoyed a strong relationship with the neighboring Jordan Valley Middle School.

This year, the People of St. James hosted a "Trunk-or-Treat event open to all the students of Jordan Valley Middle School. Students, teachers, and a number of parents shared this special Halloween experience with parishioners!

We are always excited to see churches across our diocese step-up and serve their local community in new and creative ways!
Status of Search for the 12th Bishop of Utah

This is another in a series of communications from the Nominating/Search Committee. The articles are designed to inform and educate the Diocese about the search process. This is from committee member Mike Mitchell (St. James, Midvale)
Since it began about a year and a half ago, the Nominating/Search Committee completed a Diocesan wide Survey, conducted town hall meetings of both lay and clergy within the Diocese and completed and published the Diocese Profile (with a six-month sabbatical, because of COVID). This all has led to a busy October of conducting interviews, via zoom with potential candidates for our next Bishop.

The Committee organized into teams to conduct the interviews. Each team consisted of clergy and laity. The interviews were recorded for the benefit of those committee members not part of other teams’ interviews. As a result, all committee members were able to view all interviews.

As a committee member, I was very impressed with the quality and the experience of the candidates. The committee met on a zoom call Saturday October 23. Prior to the call each committee member rated the candidates using a numeric grading system. On our Saturday call we then reviewed each candidate and how they were rated. We came to a consensus on the semi-finalists. The semi-finalist candidates will be invited to attend a Discernment Retreat in January. The retreat will be the first face to face meeting between the candidates and the Search/Nominating Committee. The retreat will be over a three-day period and each candidate and committee members will be able to interact both socially and business wise. With the assistance of our consultant, we are presently working on the Agenda/Itinerary for the retreat.

Approximately a week after the retreat the committee will then decide on the 3 to 5 candidates It will refer to the Standing Committee. The Search/Nominating Committee ends at that point.

We continue to ask for your payers as we move through this discernment process.

Peace and Blessings,

Mike Mitchell
