Episcopal Youth Ministry Network News
September Edition
Monthly Meeting Schedules being Discerned
Last year we established regular check-ins as we were shutting down due to Pandemic Protocols. The self-organized Dioccesan Youth Ministry Network relied upon the volunteer leadership of the annual gathering group to host the then weekly Zoom meetings. Over the next 18 months the Office of Youth Ministries began hosting the Zoom link and we backed off to a rhythm of meeting as a diocesan network on First Tuesdays at Noon Central time, and as a Youth Ministry Network church-wide on Third Thursdays at the same time. We took July off and have been using August and September to offer support in the arena of Safeguarding Task Force updates. We are in the planning stages of what to offer moving forward in the way of networking and support.

As we enter a second season of uncertainty about the safety of gatherings in the program year, please contemplate what would serve you best as a diocesan, and what would be most helpful to your local Youth Ministries. The Episcopal Youth Ministry Council of Advice will be discussing strategies this month as we also consult with Ministry Architects about the evaluation and future of the Episcopal Youth Event.

What would serve you best in your ministry? Would you like to continue with monthly meetings as previously scheduled? Would you prefer to try something else? Something new? We want to hear from you! Please email bskov@episcopalchurch.org with your ideas. We will let you know in late September what we plan for October and moving forward.

Diocesan Youth Ministers are identified as adults working in Youth Ministry in a diocesan capacity held accountable by the office of a Bishop Diocesan, whether volunteer or paid staff, part-time or full-time. Diocesan Youth Ministers have an established Facebook group to network and share resources as well as discern questions and activities together. If you are not on Facebook, and are not currently signed up with the Youth Ministries Office as the Diocesan Contact person, please email Faith Formation Associate David Stickley at dstickley@episcopalchurch.org.

But what about you?!?! Are you finding ways to fill up YOUR cup and LOVE YOURSELF as you love God and your neighbor? Consider joining me and Youth Ministry colleague friends in reading, reflecting and practicing alignment and balance in life. "From Burned Out to Beloved" by Bethany Dearborn Hiser has SO MUCH in terms of discussion questions, exercises, and resources!!! Join us for a six week Zoom convening to help you adopt an achievable self-care/soul-care regimen. There is still room in the group. Sign up here: Soul Tending Registration

The book can be ordered from Amazom here: From Burned out to Beloved

Feel free to read ahead. A schedule for each of the six meetings will be distributed the week following Labor Day. Our first session will focus on the Introduction and an Awareness Examen. As you discern whether to join this group or not, I offer the following from the author's introduction.

"I believe together we can journey toward basing our identity on being God's beloveds instead of on what we do or what others say about us. We can walk together toward freedom and grace instead of in desperation to make a difference. We can learn to love ourselves as our neighbors. This is a journey of pride and brokenness, of learning to say no and ask for help. It's a journey of forgiveness and healing that involves learning to combine contemplation with activism and being with doing. . . . .
Soul care is not for the faint of heart. Yet, to thrive - let alone survive - in this work, soul care is not optional. It is essential."

I hope you will prayerfully considering joining us.
