A Financial Update from Diocesan Council

Watch the video below as Bishop Doug provides an update from Diocesan Council regarding Diocesan Assessment Relief for January 2021 and 2021 cost of living increases for clergy.
Annual Reports due March 1

As we each plan to conduct the business of our faith communities via our annual meetings, however they may look this year, I wanted to make available to you the link for the 3 required reports that are due to the Diocese by March 1st. All three of them are detailed on our website at ednin.org/annual-reports (also accessible via the Resources menu option).

Please note that the 2020 Parochial Report has been modified to reflect the repercussions of the pandemic and online worship offerings. There are also additional questions related to the initiatives of The Episcopal Church.

Thank you for your faithfulness in providing this information. If you have any questions, please email Missioner Michelle.
2021 Diocesan Convention moved to November 13, 2021

At this time we are planning for another virtual convention in November 2021. In July we will assess the safety of in-person meetings and will make the final decision regarding virtual or in-person. We appreciate your patience and prayers as we make the best decisions possible with the available information.

As an update, we had hoped to welcome Presiding Bishop Michael Curry to our 2021 convention. Due to the many schedule shifts forced by the pandemic, we need to revise this plan and hope to welcome him in 2022!
Faith Formation
The Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana's new offering for adult Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation starts tonight!

Alongside your parish priest’s spiritual direction and guidance, this preparation process is an offering for anyone interested in receiving the sacramental rites of Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation. Through this course, participants will gain a better understanding of the responsibilities of Baptism and explore ways that their Christian commitment can be lived - all in the community and friendship of others within our Diocese.

This Diocesan offering will take place over the course of one year, meeting the first three Tuesdays of each month from 6:30-7:45 pm on Zoom, while also including an in-person retreat and other opportunities for fellowship and service. While the course begins in January 2021, participants are able to start this course throughout various points in the year - please talk with the clergy in your parish to discern the best starting date for you. The course will be taught by priests, scholars, and lay persons across the diocese, offering both a wide variety of perspectives as well as a depth of knowledge.

If you are interested in receiving the sacramental rite of Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation, please speak with clergy in your church and consider registering for this EDNIN offering starting in January 2021. Together, we will engage in a deeper understanding of our faith and explore how we can live faithfully as Christians in our world today.

Potential students or their clergy should email Steven Slaubaugh at: formation@stjamessouthbend.org.

Thank you to The Rev. Jen Fulton, The Rev. Nathaniel Warne, and Mr. Steven Slaubaugh for putting this curriculum together.

Episcopal Public Policy Network
The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations (OGR) believes that advocacy and civic engagement are an integral part of following Jesus’ example in caring for others. Effective advocacy is driven by strong relationships, nurtured over time and across difference, emphasizing the role each of us plays in our common life together. This means advocacy is not merely voicing a yes or no position, but includes asking how we can work and dialogue together to solve problems.

In order to accomplish this strategy, the OGR recently created the Episcopal Public Policy Network (EPPN) Ambassador Program. This program is a curated group of Episcopalians across the Church who help amplify The Episcopal Church's messaging on advocacy, education and civic engagement. In December, Canon Christopher Hillak went through the application process and was accepted into the program. The main goals for each Ambassador are to increase the number of advocacy actions taken and expand the use of our resources. The main approach involves developing local infrastructure for communication and engagement.

If you are interested in supporting OGR's initiatives through advocacy and civic engagement, please email Canon Christopher. More information will become available throughout the next month.

Two Faith Communities Enter a Time of Transition

On the last Sunday of November, St. David of Wales Episcopal Church (Elkhart) said goodbye to The Rev. Joshua Nelson as priest-in-charge. Bishop Doug presided over the Conclusion and Service for Ending of a Pastoral Relationship which can be viewed here. We give thanks for Fr. Joshua's ministry and keep him in our prayers as he discerns his next calling. A big thank you to Pastor Terri Peterson for doing double-duty at both St. David and St. John the Evangelist (Elkhart) during December. Bishop Doug is stepping in as supply priest for the near future.

In December, Trinity Episcopal Church (Michigan City) said goodbye to The Rev. Joe Czolgosz as their supply-plus priest. Fr. News from Province V
Province V Leadership Coaching Project

Province V of the Episcopal Church invites lay and clergy leaders to connect with a leadership coach.  Leaders often struggle with how to create work/life balance, how to handle conflict, engage vestry members, or pursue a particular initiative A coach can help by being a sounding board, helping the leader achieve their dreams and their potential. “Christian coaching is a focused, Christ-centered relationship that cultivates a person’s sustained growth and action” (Linda Miller and Chad Hall).

Coaching is not mentoring, training, counseling, or spiritual direction. Rather, a coaching relationship recognizes each person's individual gifts, helps identify their goals, and through self-discovery, guides and provides accountability through a process to expand possibilities for the coachee's life and ministry. Coaches are available to individuals, small groups (cohorts of a few people who meet together), or teams (such as Vestries or committees).

Full details, including a list of available coaches, are available on the Province V website. If you work in a rural area (population fewer than 20,000), you may qualify for free or discounted rates.
Questions can be addressed to Heather Barta, Coordinator of Province V at 989-413-3229 or provinceVcoordinator@gmail.com.
