Gathering on Sacred Ground: Recording and Resources

We are so grateful to all the participants and facilitators who shared their Sacred Ground stories, grateful for the poetry and the song, and grateful to the Presiding Bishop for blessing us and calling us forward.  We are also deeply moved by how many of you registered: 4121! – and that approximately 3200 of you attended or watched the simultaneous livestream on YouTube (many more since). We are indeed living members of the Jesus Movement!

You can find and share the event recording on the main page of The Episcopal Church website as well as the main Sacred Ground page.  Stay tuned for a closed captioned version of the recording and for an FAQ that responds to your most popular questions posed during the gathering. In addition, check out this wonderful story about the gathering in the Episcopal News Service.
The program leaflet is here, including the Litany of Repentance and prayers for racial justice, with sources listed (find more on the Religious Resources page of the Sacred Ground webpages). The Sacred Ground Is… poem created by the Trinity Church Santa Barbara circle is here

EDNIN Youth Summer Camp

Location: Camp Alexander Mack (Milford, Ind.)
Cost: $470

Camper registration is now open for the 2021 Diocesan Youth Summer Camp to be held June 13-19 at Camp Mack!

The 2021 fee for the week at Diocesan Youth Summer Camp is $470 per child ($30 discount for siblings). There is a required $50 deposit for each camper registered. This fee is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable after May 15. This year we are asking that all balances be paid no later than June 1. This is to cut down on the amount of items we are collecting at registration and to simplify the drive-thru process. You can pay this balance via PayPal or by sending in a check. The check must be received in the EDNIN office no later than June 1. Balance reminders and links to pay via PayPal will be sent out near the end of May. If you are in need of assistance with camp fees we ask that you first contact your parish priest or administrator to request help with funds. After contacting your parish, you may request assistance from the Diocese by emailing the missioners for camping ministries.

We are taking all precautions possible to ensure the safety of your child. Click the link to view the protocols or watch the recording of the Town Hall for Parents of Campers.

Location: Camp Alexander Mack (Milford, Ind.)
Cost: $350

Don't forget to register your high school aged youth for Sr. High Mission Week. Our week will be spent at Camp Alexander Mack July 4 - 10 giving back to their community. Learn more here.

Social Outreach Grants
Applications Due: May 31

Note: Thank you to The Rev. Clay Berkley for agreeing to be the new chairperson of the Diocesan Social Outreach Committee!

On behalf of the Social Outreach Committee of the Diocese of Northern Indiana, I wanted to alert the social outreach teams in our faith communities that the deadline of May 31 for submitting your requests for grants for the coming year is fast approaching. If you have not already done so, please consider applying. Please email your completed form to Missioner Michelle Walker. Decisions on grant awards will be made in early June.

Through social outreach, we the Church live out our mission to represent Christ, to bear witness to him, and to carry on his work of reconciliation in the world (BCP p. 855). By connecting to our communities and meeting our neighbors where they live, we spread the Good news of God’s love to them and even invite them to take a share in the same ministries. Our outward focus is essential to the life of the Church. I leave you with a poem by George MacDonald.

Better to sit at the waters’ birth,
Than a sea of waves to win;
To live in the love that floweth forth,
Than the love that cometh in.
Be thy heart a well of love, my child,
Flowing, and free, and sure;
For a cistern of love, though undefiled,
Keeps not the spirit pure.

Action Alerts

The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations (OGR) identifies opportunities for Episcopalians to participate in our democracy. If there is a topic below that you are passionate about, please click the link and send a message to your members of Congress.

  • Urge your Sentators to support the Pro Act - The right to organize is a foundational element of a liberal economy, and labor unions have been essential to the development of the U.S. economy and the American middle class. For many decades union membership rates have plummeted, with a corresponding increase in income inequality and stagnation in real wage growth.
  • Support Just Climate Infrastructure and Energy Legislation - As Episcopalians, we are especially concerned about communities on the front lines of climate change. Both sudden natural disasters and slow-onset impacts caused by climate change disproportionately affect some groups, including women, children, elders, rural residents, people with disabilities, and people who are economically marginalized. Legislation in areas such as infrastructure and energy should have a climate justice framework and an explicit emphasis on equity.
  • Support Refugee Resettlement - Last week Refugee Council USA’s Virtual Advocacy Days convened refugee organizations and advocates from across the country – including members of The Episcopal Church – to meet with Democratic and Republican lawmakers to advocate for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Join these advocates and take action now to support refugee resettlement!
  • Tell Congress to Lift the U.S. Embargo on Cuba - The Episcopal Church has long called for both a restoration of diplomatic relations and an end to the United States embargo against Cuba, particularly provisions that hamper the mission of the Church in Cuba. The historically bipartisan United States-Cuba Trade Act of 2021 would lift this embargo to allow for normal trade relations with the island nation. We ask that you join us in asking your Senators to support this legislation.
  • Support the Arctic Refuge Protection Act - For decades, The Episcopal Church has supported our members from the Gwich’in tribe who have called the lands within the Refuge home for 20,000 years. The Gwich’in have ancestral, cultural, and spiritual ties with Porcupine caribou herd and have long relied on them for sustenance. Fossil fuel extraction would disturb the caribou calving grounds and severely disrupt the livelihoods of the Gwich’in.

Province V Leadership Coaching Project

Why bother with coaching?
  • Because we believe that God has a big dream for the church's role in the world.
  • Because you are creative, resourceful, and whole and can move into the future with confidence.
  • Because the people of God want to hear a message of hope.

Province V launched this project to support leaders across our province. We want to help people unlock possibility in their lives and ministries.

A new introductory video
Take a look at this video to learn some of the benefits of coaching!

But what does coaching really LOOK like?
Watch this 10 minute video to see a demo of coaching.

Coaches are available to all people, lay and ordained, as they navigate their roles and ministries. Coaching is a dialogue between a coach and client, group, or team with the intention of finding creative ways to solve challenging problems or improve team performance on key initiatives. The coach's role is to draw out expertise through inquiry, curiosity and challenges so that clients can stretch into their best selves.

Contact a coach today! Or, contact Heather for more information.

Types of coaching
  • Individual Coaching - you and a coach meet 1-1 to focus on your goals and agenda
  • Group Coaching - a group of people (connected or not) gather to share the coaching time with one another, learning by being coached or by hearing someone else get coached. (This might be a few clergy people or lay leaders.)
  • Team Coaching - a team of people who want to be more effective together. (This might be a Vestry or a committee.)

Coaches are available for any of the work above and they will coach ALL leaders – both clergy and lay. All of them will offer an introductory session to see if you're a good fit. Find out more and explore coaching with a trained leadership coach!

Note: If you work in a rural area, you might qualify for free coaching.
You can also contact Heather if you desire coaching. Scholarships may be available.

Applications now being accepted for Coach Training Cohort #3
