Augustine Romero was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado where he studied art and completed a BA in Graphic Design at the University of Southern Colorado. In 1997 he received an MA in Sculpture from New York University. Before Moving to Albuquerque, he taught at Parsons School of Design and participated in numerous New York exhibitions.

He is the Gallery Curator for the City of Albuquerque, overseeing various exhibitions at the South Broadway Cultural Center and Gallery One galleries.

As a curator, Augustine helps artists and arts organizations prepare for and present meaningful exhibitions. In 2014, he was honored as a Local Treasure by the Albuquerque Art Business Association.

Vanessa Alvarado has had a career in the arts for 18 years, creating public art in the form of tile mosaic murals with ALMA, a non-profit she co-founded in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2011 she received her BFA in Studio Art: Painting at the University of New Mexico.

She was born, raised, and lives in the South Valley of Albuquerque. In addition to working for ALMA, she also works as a full-time art and SEL high school teacher who has her own ceramic earrings business and was also the Art Director for the South Valley Marigold Parade for four years.

Her first love was painting and she is now allowing herself to indulge in it again. She believes that art is the perfect vehicle for teaching, uniting, and healing. Healing is a personal focus in her oil paintings because she believes if we cannot heal ourselves, how can we ever hope to help heal others.

Vanessa Alvarado's piece in Interpretive Reflections is titled "Sigue el Sol/ Follow the Sun."

Alvarado states: It is about focusing on the light. This world is filled with darkness. Our lives can be filled with adversity, but if we stay grateful, and focus on the positives, the blessings, and the lessons we learn, we will always make it through the storm. As a high school teacher, as a mother, and as a youth mentor, I am always trying to do my part in spreading a message of hope and resilience.
