New Parish Administrator Starts May 23
Lynne England's last Day will be May 27
|
|
I am pleased to announce that Avery Schott will be the next Parish Administrator for St. Luke’s. An enthusiastic and experienced young professional with degrees in Music and in Peace and Conflict Studies, and a background in working with special needs students in both private and public school settings and serving on the staff of both Episcopal and Methodist churches, Avery comes with a deep love of the church and an understanding of this work as a ministry. His resume includes work supporting interfaith dialogue and assisting with a homeless person’s choir, as well skills in web design, customer service, community engagement, contracting of community artists, analytical and critical thinking, and interpersonal communication.
Avery and his fiancé are members of St. Alban’s church in Cape Elizabeth, where he recently served as interim choral director. He is also a singer with Renaissance Voices.
Avery will begin work at St. Luke’s on May 23. Lynne England will overlap with him that week, with her last day at St. Luke’s on Friday May 27. (Lynne will be taking some personal time earlier in the month, with coverage in the office by Claire Hammen.)

With Cumberland County at a Covid level of “green,” we have moved to having masks as optional. We had planned to return to the use of a chalice/common cup during our communion services on May 1, but due to cases of Covid in our staff and volunteers, are delaying offering the chalice until May 8, Mother's Day. Mother's Day will also mark the return of coffee hour!
Following recommendations from medical professionals, intinction (dipping bread into the common cup) will not be permitted, as it increases the risk of contagion. If you prefer not to receive from the common cup, you may cross your arms as the chalice passes or return directly to your seat after receiving the bread.
Should Covid numbers change and Cumberland county move to “yellow” or “red,” we will reintroduce Covid protocols, including requiring the wearing of masks and discontinuing coffee hour and the use of the chalice.

A member of the congregation has been a victim of a phishing scam, which included a request to buy Amazon or other gift cards to help those in need. Unfortunately, this sort of scam seems to happen now on a regular basis, often using names of cathedral members and staff. St. Luke's does not ask for support in this way. Please delete these emails and do not respond to these requests. Thank you.
