Reducing Equine Abortion Due to EHV-1

Dr. Tracey Chenier, Theriogenologist and researcher from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph, discusses how to manage and reduce the impact of equine herpesvirus-1 abortion in your broodmare herd. 3rd trimester can see more cases of Equine Herpesvirus-1 abortion. Prevention includes biosecuirty measures such as keeping vaccinations up to date, quarantining new horses coming into the barn and grouping horses according to their jobs; keeping other stock away from the broodmares. Minimizing winter stress may include bringing a broodmare in when conditions are particularly stormy or ice is a problem.

Listen to podcastor ice is a problem.
