While the world is grappling with how schools will reopen amidst the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students and families in Minnesota had already been living in crisis within our schools. There is, and has been, a tragic history of the delivery gaps, perpetuated achievement gaps and lack of supports for black and brown students and families. In a state that prides itself as an example of democratic values, a state that once greatly supported a senator that reminded its people that, “We all do better, when we all do better,” Minnesota has somehow missed the bus. Minnesota has yet to level the playing field in developing systems and ensuring equitable outcomes for ALL of our students.

When will the achievement of all student’s matter? Has the achievement of our black and brown kids ever truly been a priority? Even when Supreme Court decisions and social movements take place, have...

Adapting to the Needs of Our Learners During Covid-19
This past six months has been like no other in history. We have shifted our work to being in-person with the necessary procedures in place based on district needs and also have ramped-up our virtual platforms to deliver services.

Our work with Northfield Public Schools was in progress when we shifted to an online format.

Superintendent Matt Hillman shared, "I searched for over a year to find a strategic partner to help improve our district's racial equity practices. Equity Alliance skyrocketed to the top of the list. Their team is incredibly skilled at designing interactive learning experiences that support growth in the understanding of implicit bias, cultural competency, and racial equity. They created a customized program to meet our needs -- we needed to shift from in-person cultural competency training to virtual training due to COVID-19. Their adjustment to the online environment was nothing short of miraculous and provided a tremendously valuable experience for our staff."

Equity Alliance MN 20-21 Educators of Color Learning Cohort was created to support teachers and educators of color in Minnesota by providing time and space to explore some essential questions that are meaningful and important to our collective work. During this cohort, we will host multiple sessions to discuss essential questions to support growth and advancement opportunities. To learn more about the program and how to get involved, check out the detailed information on our website.
EA-MN Equity Audits Identify Systemic Concerns
An Equity Audit is a process that supports a district through data-informed practices to guide decision-making, implementation and action on how to develop context specific strategies to school-community concerns. It is an approach to identify systemic issues and concerns that can be addressed over time through commitment to building relationships, addressing disparities, providing support and continued focus on results through continuous improvement.

Equity Alliance MN works collaboratively with districts supplying the necessary framework, research, tools and support to complete a comprehensive Equity Audit for school districts and organizations. Our process is structured to gather quantitative and qualitative data and information through a thorough process to understand the outcomes of current systems, as well as the current climate and perceptions of lived experiences.
