When I was initially chatting with my friend Kellie Sauls about her keynote presentation on diversity, equity, and inclusion at our conference today, she asked me to send her a copy of our diversity statement. I was chagrined to confess that we don’t specifically have one, other than language in our Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. I told her we would remedy this deficiency.
About the same time as this conversation, I received an email from Bonnie Johnson sharing the antiracist policy she created for her private practice, with her permission to adapt to the needs of HBB, encouraging me to take it to the Board of Directors. It seemed to be serendipity.
And so, the Board reflected on various drafts of statements during honest and sometimes uncomfortable conversations. In the end, we approved the following statement, also located on our Healing Beyond Borders website under "About Us"..
Sincerely,
Joel G. Anderson, PhD, CHTP, FGSA
