Erie March for Life: Saturday, May 2

Please plan now to support the Erie March for Life on May 2. Congressman Mike Kelly and state Representative Brad Roae will be there. So should you.

We would like everyone to assemble in Perry Square at 10:45 a.m. to get organized, so the March can begin promptly at 11 a.m.

Read more about the Erie March for Life on PeopleforLife.org and in the May online issue of the Erie Echo newsletter.

2nd Doctorate for Past Breakfast Speaker

This article was intended for the Erie Echo newsletter, but we ran out of room.

Those who attended the 2024 Pro-Life Breakfast will fondly remember our Special Guest Speaker Professor Sherif Girgis. With his wife in her last few weeks of pregnancy and not feeling well and a snow storm approaching, Sherif had to cancel his trip to Erie at the last minute. But with some help from Grise Audio Visual, he was able to speak to our guests via Zoom.

Sherif brilliantly analyzed the recent 2022 Dobbs decision and its implications for the future of the pro-life cause. He also talked about how he presents the case against abortion to liberal-minded, pro-choice college students by appealing to themes such as expanding the social safety net, fighting discrimination, and securing justice for the weak and marginalized, while making the case for the moral worth of unborn human beings by appealing to science and the students’ natural inclination toward the ideal of human equality.

At the time, Sherif was teaching at the Notre Dame Law School and working toward a doctorate in Philosophy from Princeton. We recently learned that Sherif successfully defended his doctoral dissertation this March. There is a Ph.D. as well as a J.D. after his name now. Wonderful news for the pro-life cause!
