Erin Vogel to Make SRO GT4 America Debut
at Sonoma Raceway with Flying Lizard
SONOMA, Calif., (May 14, 2019) – Six months after leading an all-female effort to a class win at the 2018 25 Hours of Thunderhill, Erin Vogel is going to make her SRO GT4 America debut next month at Sonoma Raceway with Flying Lizard Motorsports. She will compete in both Sprint races, competing in the same Audi R8 LMS GT4 car she and four other women drove to victory in December.

“We are really looking forward to Erin’s debut in the Blancpain GT4 America series,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “Since our Thunderhill win, she has been on an aggressive program to gain knowledge and experience behind the wheel. She is not only working on increasing her speed and understanding of the car, but she is also improving her race craft with every lap. She has done a great job this year and with Sonoma being our home track, it is a great opportunity for her to continue to advance her racing program.”

Vogel recently completed a test at the team’s home track, Sonoma Raceway, quickly getting up to speed in the blue and white Lizard-liveried car. With McLaren factory driver Michael Cooper as her coach, she ran all day on the 2.52-mile road course in preparation for the double header event, June 8-9.

Vogel began her motorsports experience in 2009 at an Audi Club High Performance Driving Experience with her parents and brother. She raced for two seasons in the Inde Motorsports Ranch Challenge Series before joining the Porsche Owners Club (POC) in 2016. She has since joined the ranks of the Pirelli Trophy West Series with Flying Lizard Motorsports, with professional race car driver Michael Cooper on hand as her coach.

“I'm very excited and honored to represent the Flying Lizard brand at this level, and to have their confidence and skill backing me is a great feeling,” said Vogel. “The Porsche Trophy West has been great preparation, and I'm feeling very consistent going into my GT4 America debut in June. There is still some work to do, but what I've done so far is paying dividends and I hope to continue with that trend going into Sonoma's races and beyond. It's fantastic to be back in the Audi.”

The GT4 America Series will offer a new level of competition, boasting fields between 20 and 44 cars at each of the events thus far. The double header at Sonoma Raceway will feature two fifty minute races, without pit stops or driver changes. For series and schedule information, visit www.gt4-america.com
