The Escalation Clause

Many people have questions about the Escalation Clause, and Jay spends a large amount of time in the CE Classes going over this topic.

In this portion, he discusses when to use it, how it can help you and your buyer, and ways it could get you into problems.

Green Skies  Tornadoes...
Or Do They?

We are used to some interesting weather in Indiana. Thunderstorms and wind, and as we all know, if the sky turns green, that signals a tornado.

But, do green skies really say "a tornado is on its way", like Hoosiers have always heard? The experts say no.
Scientific American reports that green skies just means thunderstorms; however, the color was not an additional indication of what was happening within the storm.
Threatening green skies during a thunderstorm proved independent of the type of severe weather that came with it.

Studies have measured hailstorms where the dominant wavelength of light was green, and compared them to hailstorms that produced a gray-blue sky.  Tornado-producing storms were separate from any particular sky color, other than dark.

So, Hoosiers, green skies mean that there is bad weather and tornadoes could be a part of it. However, green skies do not, necessarily, mean tornadoes.

The Hoosier Pork Tenderloin Sandwich... Why is it the Food of Indiana?

In most pubs and restaurants in Indiana, you can usually find a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. It is definitely recognized as a State Sandwich.
There was even a Tenderloin Week a few months ago around the city-- hopefully it will be an annual thing!

Ever wonder why there is a Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich on most every menu in Indiana?
It turns out there's a good reason and it has to do with the History of our State.
When Indiana first gained population in the early 1800s, over half of those who came to Indiana from overseas were of German origin. What do immigrants bring with them? Food traditions. Their food: Schnitzel.
Schnitzel is a German meat dish that is a very thin boneless cutlet of veal, pork, beef or chicken that is often breaded and deep fried or pan fried. The most well known Schnitzel is Wienerschnitzel which is traditionally Veal, breaded with crumbs.
In Indiana, it became a Pork Tenderloin, because Indiana is one of the largest pork- producing states. (Interestingly, it is the same reason why Texas has Chicken Fried Steaks. German immigrants brought Schnitzel to the South, but there, beef is more prevalent.)
Nicks Kitchen in Huntington, IN claims to be the originator of the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Certainly, claiming to begin a regional iconic food is suspect. However, this restaurant is over 100 years old, so perhaps it's very possible.
... So the next time you order a Tenderloin Sandwich at your favorite pub, know that you aren't just ordering the perfect lunch.  Understand that you are actually ordering a piece of Indiana history.
