Some things are perfectly clear while others are a little fuzzy. First, there is nothing more beautiful than a clear sunny beautiful day in Escondido. Now the fuzzy, what exactly does “reopening” on June 15th look like? Our Governor has stated unequivocally that June 15th California will reopen, removing restrictions in place from the pandemic. Dee Dee Myers, who is senior advisor to Governor Newsom and director of the Office of Business and Economic Development in an interview is quoted “the June 15th date gives the state plenty of time to make sure that we aren’t seeing something unusual, we aren’t seeing these variants take hold, we aren’t seeing people who are vaccinated get sick or infected or hospitalized.”
Myers added “a clear date for full reopening will allow families and businesses to make effective plans as capacity restrictions expire across California.
“But, people will still be required to wear masks, and in some cases, they may still be required to be tested or vaccinated before they can go to those higher risk kinds of events,” Well, that’s clear.
As we approach the magic June 15th date businesses are making plans. They’re looking to hire, and the fact is there’s just not enough people willing to fill the jobs. Where is the disconnect?

Back to redistricting and California. With the latest census data California does lose 1 seat in the House but we will still have 52 U.S. House seats. Even with 52 seats, it would have more seats than any other state by far, and it remains the nation’s most populous state by a significant margin, with nearly 40 million people compared with Texas’ almost 30 million.
Redistricting represents a fundamental change we are all going to experience as it redefines our boundaries for representation on local, county, state and national basis.
Thank you to those of you who have recently joined the Escondido Chamber of Commerce and to the many of you who continue your support of this 125+ year old institution. Our efforts may often go unnoticed, but we are unwavering in our goal of helping businesses grow.
Cheers,
James Rowten (JR)
