We also celebrate Hailey Serrano, Coralis Rivera, and Juan Urbina, who recently graduated from the Drexel University Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program, another exciting partnership that supports medical career pathways. You can read more about the Drexel program and this year’s graduation here.
We are grateful to God for equipping them with the skills to care for others and bring His love and healing into their work. May the Lord bless them as they step into this next chapter of their journey!

Congratulations to Our Spring 2025 Community Health Promoters Graduates!
We are thrilled to celebrate our 10 graduates who have successfully completed our Community Health Promoters Program this Spring! The 8-week Community Health Promoters training equips participants to address physical, mental, relational, and spiritual health topics, while building their skills to lead conversations, share health information, and connect neighbors to vital resources. Graduates receive a Health Promoter Certificate, recognizing their commitment to serving their communities with knowledge and compassion. We are so proud of each graduate and how they are bringing hope, healing, and connection to the community. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort this Fall!
| | | Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month | | | | |
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - where we recognize and celebrate the culture, contributions, and achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI).
Here are some fun facts about AAPI Heritage: The term “Asian American” originated in 1968 by Yuji Ichioka and Emma Gee, students at the University of California, Berkeley. The Term Pacific Islander refers to those who trace their origins to the Island Nations of the Polynesian, Micronesian, and Melanesian regions. To learn more about AAPI Heritage, visit 10 Things to Know About Asian Americans — R-Squared and 10 Honorable Traits of Pacific Islander Culture — R-Squared.
Esperanza staff gathered at our 3 sites to celebrate with traditional Asian food, games, and dancing!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
At Esperanza, we recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health. This month is a reminder to care for our emotional and spiritual well-being, check in with loved ones, and reduce the stigma around mental health struggles. Let's continue to create safe, supportive spaces in our community where people feel seen, heard, and valued. If you are a current patient at Esperanza in need of Behavioral Health Services, please call (215) 302-3600 ext. 220 to speak with a provider.
| | | Celebrating National Nurses Week | |
National Nurses Week is celebrated every year during the second Week of May. Esperanza sends a tremendous thank you to all of our nurses; their care not only supports the physical health of our patients but also uplifts their spirits. Recently, we heard from one of Esperanza’s Care Team RNs, Aira Onate, RN.
“I recently had an annual well visit with one of my patients who had a history of spotty appointment attendance and was generally resistant to most medical interventions. During our session, I carefully listened and took a detailed look at his history, which helped me discover that the patient had fallen out of care with urology. I also provided some motivational interviewing to emphasize the importance of following up on his symptoms. This approach enabled me to connect him with Care Management, who then helped him get back into care with urology. Since then, he has had a cancerous bladder mass removed and is now under care at Fox Chase. The patient has expressed gratitude for the way I cared for him.”
