The New CORE Mural Celebration

The CORE mural, Watering the Seed of Community, was installed earlier this month on the first floor of our community wellness center, The CORE, and a wonderful celebration in its honor was held on Thursday, May 21st.

The CORE mural was curated by mural artist Becky McIntyre with the ideas and inspiration from the community, CORE Action Team, and staff. She held brainstorming sessions and community paint days so that all could contribute to the ideas that shaped the mural. Becky shared her insights on the process, from first steps to seeing the mural come to life. “Through initial conversations, brainstorming sessions, collecting photos of community members, the design review, and community paint days–the process of this project was long but so worth it! I am holding so much gratitude for the days that I was installing the mural at The CORE and the opportunity to witness the CORE community interact with the art–seeing themselves, recognizing others, sharing with their loved ones, and finding the symbolism or their contributions in the design.” Becky also expressed gratitude for being welcomed to witness the incredible network of people, relationships, activities, values, and work that is The CORE at Esperanza!

Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month

On May 27th Esperanza Health Center held Lunch and Learns at each of its sites to spend time celebrating the diverse cultures represented amongst our staff and community,

as these reflect the beauty and wisdom of God's Kingdom. Staff enjoyed Vietnamese Bahn Mi sandwiches from K Cafe, located in North Philly, delicious snacks, and games.

National Mental Health Awareness Month

More than 97% of health centers, including Esperanza, provide mental health counseling and treatment services. At Esperanza Health Center mental health awareness and behavioral health care are essential because they help individuals recognize, understand, and address emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges before they become overwhelming or life-threatening. Strong behavioral health support improves overall well-being, strengthens relationships, enhances physical health outcomes, and helps people function more effectively at home, work, school, and in their communities.

Increasing awareness also reduces stigma, encourages people to seek help earlier, and promotes a culture of compassion, prevention, and whole-person care.
