Impact and Insights from The Global Missions Health Conference

Earlier this month staff members from Esperanza Health Center including (Photo, L to R) Dr. Daniel Chen, Natalie Martinez Balcer, Susan Post, Hector Villaveitia, Danerys Raices, and Anabel Wallace, RN traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the Global Missions Health Conference (GMHC) where our CEO, Susan Post, was a guest speaker. The GMHC is the largest conference for healthcare professionals from all over the world to learn, network, and advance God’s mission through healthcare.

In Susan’s session titled Seeing Jesus, she spoke about keeping our eyes fixed on Christ as we dive deeper into our callings, and to never forget His words while we fulfill our missions. It is the essence of why we do what we do at Esperanza. The GMHC provided a platform for attendees to delve into many other important discussions on global health challenges, innovative solutions, and the intersection of faith and healthcare.

For Esperanza staff, the GMHC was not just a conference but a source of inspiration and renewed dedication to their missions. Said Dr. Daniel Chen, Internal Medicine Physician at Esperanza: “GMHC was a wonderful time of connection with fellow Esperanza staff and with so many like-minded, compassionate people. It was so energizing and inspiring to have the opportunity to share with others and to learn from the wealth of the experiences of those working alongside the Holy Spirit in bringing a bigger glimpse of His kingdom around the world and in our own communities.”

Congratulations to Esperanza’s First Graduating Class of Medical Assistants!

Last month, Esperanza Health Center celebrated its first cohort of graduates of its Medical Assistant Externship Program! Esperanza has partnered with The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) for an externship in primary care Medical Assistant training, where students learned administrative and clinical duties to provide direct patient care, embodying the values of Christ throughout their training. We congratulate Jermarie Muniz, Brisaly Cedeno, and Kimberly Gomez on their successful completion of the program, and welcome their generous spirits to our team of Medical Assistants at Esperanza!

Senator Bob Casey Visits Esperanza Health Center

Photo (L to R): Senator Bob Casey, Juan Pérez, COO of Esperanza Health Center, and John Stanford, Philadelphia Interim Police Commissioner.

On November 10th, Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) visited Esperanza’s community wellness center, The CORE, to hold a press conference on the Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act, a bi-partisan bill that Senator Casey co-sponsored. The proposed legislation is designed to strengthen current regulations and address the rising surge of fentanyl in communities across the U.S., including Philadelphia. The Kensington community, where The CORE and Esperanza’s Kensington health center site are located, is an area deeply impacted by the opioid crisis in Philadelphia.

Juan Pérez, Esperanza’s Chief Operating Officer, described how Esperanza’s staff is often called to aid individuals dealing with an overdose just outside of the facility. Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford also shared remarks. Senator Casey commended Esperanza for their efforts and impactful work: “This is God’s work and you’re doing it everyday.”
