National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, is a time to honor and recognize the cultural contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. It’s a month of pride, reflection, and celebration of the traditions, history, and achievements of Latinx people that have shaped our country, whether through art, music, healthcare, or community service. Esperanza Receives High Performer Recognition Awards from Jefferson Health Plans

Esperanza Health Center is excited to announce that our Hunting Park (4417 N. 6th Street, 19140) and Kensington (861 E. Allegheny Ave., 19134) sites have been recognized by Jefferson Health Plans as High Performers based on the Quality Care Plus (QCP) Measurement Year 2023 results! Both sites are two-time High Performers–an incredible achievement!

The QCP program, launched in June 2023, evaluates how well health care providers meet important health standards related to Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) quality measures, including rates of control of chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes, and key preventative metrics including breast cancer and well-child care. High-performing sites were chosen based on how many patient care needs were met. We are proud of the hard work shown by our teams to provide top-quality care! Congratulations EHC team!

September is National Recovery Month

National Recovery Month, observed every September, is dedicated to celebrating the strength and resilience of individuals in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders. It’s a time to raise awareness about the importance of recovery, reduce stigma, and highlight the positive impact of support services and community resources.

Esperanza’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Team has been actively supporting National Recovery Month by providing detox kits to individuals who decide to detox at home instead of our facility. The detox kits include: an encouraging Bible verse, Gatorade for electrolytes, a journal, a manual explaining in detail what they will experience and what to expect, and other activities to help them redirect their thoughts and keep them occupied. The MAT Team also provides hygiene kits, snacks, and coffee to unhoused patients, to show them how much our health center cares.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use and/or mental health disorders, Esperanza can help. Individuals who are interested in services can call (215) 302-3600, ext 220 Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, or walk in to our Kensington & Allegheny site, 861 E. Allegheny Ave., for assistance.

Esperanza Fresh Continuing Through October

Every Thursday, from now until the end of October, Esperanza’s Community Health and Wellness team partners with America’s Grow-A-Row, a non-profit farm in New Jersey, and The Simple Way to provide free fresh produce at each of our clinic sites. You can find our team at:

  • Hunting Park (4417 N. 6th St. 19140), 10 am-11:30 am
  • 5th Street (2940 N. 5th St., 19133), 12:30 pm-2 pm
  • Kensington & Allegheny (courtyard of The CORE 3222 H St. 19134), 2 pm-3:30 pm

On September 12, A Better Start, a preventative health education group from the Women and Children’s Service Line (WSC) at Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia joined us at our Hunting Park site for an engaging session on healthy eating. The team shared their favorite healthy foods and recipes, interacted with community members about their favorite nutritious foods, and offered meal ideas to try at home. They also provided valuable education on how to make healthier food choices, highlighting the benefits of balanced nutrition. We’re grateful for their insights and excited to continue Esperanza Fresh!
