Giving Tennessee students a head start, the National Work Readiness Council (the Council) is partnering with the Tennessee Department of Education to provide all high school seniors the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized career readiness credential at no cost – before graduation.
The Council offers the only nationally recognized career readiness credential validating both the foundational workplace skills and the soft skills most in-demand by employers today.
The first-year results will also inform school district / school career readiness instruction for next year and beyond.
With the passing of the new Tennessee Work Ready Opportunity Program last year, there is no direct cost to local education authorities (LEAs) or students. The Tennessee Department of Education will directly pay for the testing and credentialing.
As an added value, the Council is also providing free access to the corresponding online curriculum for participating students this year.
“Education Networks of America applauds the National Work Readiness Council for collaborating with Tennessee high schools to close the career readiness skills gap and ensure that all students have the essential soft skills necessary to successfully compete in the workforce of the future. Like most employers, we are looking for new hires who can first think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively, and unfortunately today, those skills are too often hard to find,” said David Pierce, CEO of Education Networks of America, a Nashville-based private employer specializing in internet services for government, schools, libraries, and healthcare.
