God at Work
May 2021 - Ethics
As a part of ACCTS’ strategy for future ministry to military Christian fellowships (MCFs), we have initiated a weekly Pray and Plan session about meeting  their needs for training in ethics.  Since this is such a broad subject, we are initially focusing on young MCF leaders.

 To date, we have:

  • Identified ten training elements, with learning objectives and lesson plans on various aspects of ethical conduct as a military Christian   The lesson plans will provide a means of focusing the training.

  • Solicited real life stories of ethical issues encountered by military Christians.  Each story is then formatted to include the story, discussion questions and a brief Bible study, ending with conversational prayer about the situation.

  • Initiated a pilot ethics mentoring program which assigns a mentor upon request.. The mentor does not give advice on specific issues but rather suggests resources and shares his own experiences in handling ethical dilemmas.

  • Determined  that the body of ethics resources being developed will reside on the ACCTS  website, with supporting materials linked to the Ethics Lesson Plans. In addition, the lesson plans will be incorporated in the AMCF Reference Handbook in future updates.   The ACCTS online Journal of Faith and War (www.faithandwar.org) has been revived, and will provide a forum for the discussion of ethical dilemmas in uniformed service.

  • In addition to the Pray and Plan process, a Total Quality Management (TQM) approach is being used to ensure we are seeking God’s ideas and being good stewards of His time and resources to provide the best possible ethics training products. Our core values of being Biblically based, Spirit Led, Prayer Centered, and People Focused also guide us.

  • A series of ethics-focused devotionals by senior military Christian leaders in the weekly Pray & Plans sessions are being transcribed with discussion questions. The devotionals will be located on the ACCTS website with links to the appropriate lesson plan.

  • Began an ethics Bible memory project for young MCF leaders. At a minimum there would be a memory verse for each of the ten training elements that are covered in the lesson plans. The verses would be on small cards (the size of a business card) in a plastic wallet that could easily be carried in the leader’s pocket to review during the day.

  • Responded to the AMCF Vice President for North America’s request for training in ethics for police and military recruits in the Caribbean. This will include the use of ACCTS staff and local MCF leaders as teachers and introduce the students to the AMCF

Pray that the Lord will bless this initiative to inculcate the concept of ethical conduct among military Christians around the world, and bear much fruit in helping to contain corruption and prevent violence.

Prayers For May
Gracious Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for your word, which guides us to ethical conduct in the dilemmas we face in military service, Continue, we pray, to bless the Pray and Plan team working on the ethics project in your name.

El Elyon, our God most high, use the efforts of those laboring on the Ethics Project to bless military Christians around the world as they learn to do the "harder right, instead of the easier wrong" as a result of this training.

Jehovah Jireh, our God who provides, show us your will for this project as the team praises and worships you, and acts on the plans you reveal.
