On Friday, November 17 from 1:30-2:30pm, there will be a demonstration at the HRAF booth to illustrate how the developments produced via iKLEWS can facilitate and enhance research using the eHRAF World Cultures database. What kinds of studies are being done with the eHRAF databases?

In the latest edition of the Academic Quarterly, we are excited to share new research on forager beliefs, myths and decision-making; several publications on hunting tools, strategies and women’s hunting; a cross-cultural study of variation in norm enforcement; gender differences in play; and the universality of music.

Publications from HRAF staff this quarter include an ethnography of cultural tradition in the face of digital change; a study of ethnomedical specialists; and a worldwide cross-cultural comparison of uniformity in dress.

Don't forget to sign up to receive updates!

HRAF is pleased to announce the recipients of the HRAF Global Scholars Program for 2024. This program provides scholars around the world with one year of complimentary access to our research databases, eHRAF World Cultures and eHRAF Archaeology.

Applications for the program were received on behalf of individuals and academic institutions in low- or middle-income countries, as defined by the World Bank.

For 2024, we have four scholars participating in the HRAF Global Scholars Program:

Tegegne Mekuria, Wollo University, Ethiopia

Subhra Saha, Indira Gandhi National Open University, India

Kamal Feriali, Université Hassan II de Casablanca, Morocco

Karminn C.D. Daytec Yañgot, University of the Phillipines Baguio

In the months ahead, we will feature the work of each of these scholars in posts on our homepage and social media.

Congratulations to all!

November 28, 2023 is #GivingTuesday: a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

We hope you will consider joining the Friends of HRAF for #GivingTuesday. We welcome a helping hand in promoting anthropology, cross-cultural research, and the understanding of cultural diversity. The Friends of HRAF offers our supporters the opportunity to directly contribute to the development of HRAF and thereby ensure its continuing place at the heart of anthropology and cultural research.

Contributions enable us to advance our mission of understanding cultural diversity through scholarly research and education. Our funding priorities include the HRAF Global Scholars program and our open access resources (Explaining Human Culture, Teaching eHRAF, eHRAF Workbooks, and our online introductory course).

The Human Relations Area Files (HRAF) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions.
