I
n Parshat Emor we have one of several places where the Torah speaks of Yamim Tovim - the Jewish holidays. It is from these verses where we learn myriad amounts of Halachot and observances.
The Jewish calendar is hard to ignore because it plays such an important role in our lives. We plan our entire year around it. School, work, events and vacations all depend on when the holidays fall. (This coming year they are “Late” by the way).
In actuality, this is a great gift for our people. A Jew can never go too long from being reminded who he or she really is. I have always felt that it is good to be “pinned down” to this kind of schedule because it keeps us honest and holy.
Oh, and Shavuot is right around the corner. Get the cheesecakes ready.
Shabbat Shalom.
