This week we continue to follow the saga of Yaakov Avinu. Having fled from home to save his life, he ends up in the house of his uncle Lavan where he marries and begins his family. It is on the way to Charan that Yaakov sleeps and dreams of a ladder heading up to the heavens. He sees angels going up and down the ladder and receives inspiration and assurance from Hashem.
We all dream in one form or another The question is: What do we dream about? Do we have "Sweet Dreams" like our mothers wished for us each night or do we have nightmares? Do we dream of making more in this material world or do we dream of becoming better people and better Jews?
Yaakov Avinu, despite all of his difficulties at this point in time, dreamt of angels. His dreams were lofty and spiritual. He desired a closer connection to above. As the children of Yaakov Avinu, we too must always have lofty and holy dreams no matter what is going on in our otherwise tumultuous lives.
