Registration Open - Real Estate Workshop

On  14-16 October  the first EuroPris Real Estate Workshop will take place in the historic City of  Ljubljana, Slovenia  . The Workshop will be a full two-day event and is hosted by the Slovenian Prison Service. The Workshop is exclusively for the Public Sector, Academics and NGO’s. The programme contains a number of presentations on different areas of prison real estate and will include a focus on ‘Designing for Rehabilitation’ which was the subject of the latest report from the Real Estate Expert Group.

Save the Date - Interagency Cooperation Workshop

In cooperation with t he Confederation of European Probation EuroPris organises 12-13 November a workshop in Barcelona at the Centre for Legal Studies. The workshop will focus on the interagency cooperation between prisons, probation and municipalities when preparing offenders for their return to society. Call for papers is still open until 31st July . Registration will open in September.

RAN Prison and Probation - Practitioners Working Paper
The Radicalisation Awareness network just issued its latest working paper on ‘Approached to countering radicalization and dealing with violent extremist and terrorist offenders in prison and probation. This paper presents the practitioners’ perspective, and first and foremost aims to be of value to other practitioners in this field. It provides an overview of some of the principal findings emerging in the field of radicalisation, in the context of prison and probation.

Ethical and Moral Considerations of Digitalization
At the 3rd Technology in Corrections Conference, organized by EuroPris and ICPA in Lisbon in April 2019, Victoria Knight and Steven van de Steene presented their research on assessing and evaluating the moral implications of digitization. During their presentation they questioned the participants about issues like legality, proportionality and equality. An overview of the responses was collected in the report.

Other News 
First Football Works Festival
On the 13th June of 2019 , the European Football for Development Network (EFDN) and Dutch Justice Department jointly organised the first ever Football Works Festival at the prison in Almelo, the Netherlands . The Festival programme included a conference with experts and leaders from across Europe that use football as a tool for offender rehabilitation, reintegration and employability. At the same time, 14 European teams competed in a football tournament. Among the players were (former) participants in football based rehabilitation and employability programmes and former professional players.
