Evacuation Order Issued by Sheriff for Community of Planada

MERCED—A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for the community of Planada by Sheriff Vern Warnke due to flooding.

At the time of this release, the affected area includes the entire town of Planada.

Emergency personnel are making direct contact with more than 4,000 individuals in the affected area today. Impacted residents are being evacuated to a shelter site at the Merced County Fairgrounds. Residents in the affected area were previously notified to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

Additional rainfall and heavy flows along local waterways could cause additional flooding. Residents are encouraged to have an evacuation plan and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Residents in possible evacuation areas are encouraged to have important items prepared in a "go bag," such as:
  • Car/house keys;
  • Wallet/handbag;
  • Cell phones with chargers;
  • Credit cards and cash;
  • Medication;
  • Toiletries;
  • Changes of clothing;
  • Legal and insurance documents.

Residents are asked to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Major flooding is occurring along local roads and highways, and first responders are working diligently to protect public safety and property. Always follow emergency signage.
